LOVE the movie, rarely do we get to see Denzel play the "cool muthafucka" role The only thing wack about the movie is the super quick ending & the overall chemistry between Denzel & Joie Lee - there was NONE I can't believe Spike would hand such a big role over to his half acting sister, imagine a real actress in that role? Would have been SWEET!
Soundtrack is great. I love when Top Pop 40 comes on my ITunes, & Harlem Blues of course. I still remember feeling all wonderous in the movie theater seeing the film for the first time. Spike brought worlds/flavors to the screen that hadn't been explored for Black folks, he'll always get props for that

One of my three favorite Spike Lee joints!!! The movie and the soundtrack are amazing!!
And I'm SHOCKED "Harlem Blues" hasn't become more of a modern standard that women jazz vocalists love to cover. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

The music is awesome, Blanchard did amazing job on those. They remind a lot of Herbie Hancock's "Maiden Voyage" period in structure and tone. I wish I still had the cassette, I have no idea where it is now.

I do love this movie, and its odd that none of the characters are likable at all. They are all assholes pretty much
Iam surprised no one commented on wesley snipes' role. As this film is before all his "black arnie" roles, it was good to see some real depth in his acting (he did well in "jungle fever" too). In mo better, it is he, who is refreshing to see not playing a "cool MF" role. I got alt of respect for wesley.

i love this movie!!!! One of my favs from spike...and that fine ass Denzel... he looked so good in that movie, and when he walked...OH MY GOD, if that man ain't got the most sexiest walk i have ever seen before in my life!! in every movie his walk is just so sexy, its like a half pimp, glide type walk. it just makes him look so confident and so deliciously dignified. When u look at him its like "now that's a real man".
but anyway, the movie was really classy. I love seeing black folks doing something else besides being in the hood trying to get out or them relationship drama-fied films. That club was just so tight, i wish we had something like that in the city i live in. Something to just chill out to without some idiots coming in wearing the wrong thing and trying to fight the bouncers because they won't let them in. i don't know, it was just maybe the fact the film was classy, like the men wore nice clothes, not that trendy urban shit thats in all the videos. Even though the characters weren't doing right, i could still respect them, sought of... I wish we had a "Mo' Better" in my town. [Edited 3/28/06 18:17pm] I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

A slight dig at the street culture of black people at the time.
