Why would someone leave their driver's license in the car? I couldn't get into club without it. dancing jig

I only have a tape player in my car, so all I ever have with me are tapes. Unfortunately, no one wants to steal those. I kinda wish they'd get stolen and I'd take the insurance money rather then trying to sell them on eBay and get next to nothing. razz

do tapes go funny in the cold if you leave your car out?

No, not really. It's more of having the car stereo warm up enough so its gears and belts aren't slow to play them. razz

My car has both a cassette and CD player. I think I use the cassette deck more than the CD player!

I got a mp3 Cd player, so I put 4-5 favourite ablums on one CDR and that's all I need in my car - if someone steals it, no big deal.

oh no, really you shouldn't leave anything out in the open in your car. Sometimes I may leave gloves and an umbrella...oh and a windshield scraper. My cd book is underneath my seat so that is out of view. but i do know some people whose cars were broken into for things left in view to steal...
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

don't ever, EVER leave them visible in your car.

My car was just broken into as I watched "V For Vendetta" with my friends at the movies today. Apparently, because of the immigration situation here in California, there are lots of angry people that want to be heard. We left the movie theater to see the streets closed off with flares and people running around holding Mexican flags, screaming and chanting. When we got to the parking garage, I found my windows busted in and all of my CDs gone. My stereo, my overnight bag (along with my best friends'), pictures, a camera, everything. Why did I feel so invincible? Small town. Sunday afternoon. Crowded garage. Never happened before, so why should it now?

I realized I practically asked for this to happen, but my heart's on the floor. I once had every Prince album and now they're all gone. It took me twelve years to get all of the music I had. I never even got to listen to '3121'- they took it before I even got the chance to unwrap it.

Normally, I put everything in my trunk and rarely take more than one case of music with me. But this weekend was different- we had a hotel room party because it was my girlfriend's 25th birthday and I was in charge of music. At least we had a good time, eh?

When I calmed down enough to call the police, they told me to file a report online. The woman told me that every available police officer in Santa Rosa was tending to the protesters. And my insurance company won't cover anything other than my windows as personal property is covered under homeowners' insurance.

Never, ever, even once, leave anything valuable in your car. Don't learn the hard way like I did.

The same thing happened to me once...lost everything I had including Prince, and some other things....it made me sad at first now it pisses me off. I wish I knew who the fucker was so I could beat the shit out of him. Now I got them all back because of someone near and dear to me. Never again will it happen.
They also tried to rip out my stereo but could not get it...It was hanging by the bracket and wires when I got back in my car.... disbelief

Do you have homeowner's insurance that will cover the CD loss?

If not, orgNote me.

That sucks. comfort

I used to have one of those big cases in my car, but I only kept burned copies in it. It was still probably dumb to leave it out. I was begging to have my windows broken.

My car was busted into once (when I was in Vancouver, for ONA), but they didn't find anything they wanted. I had a box of casettes that I would have been very sorry to lose -- lots of interesting Prince boots -- but, not surprisingly, they didn't want casettes.

My current car has a very inconspicuous factory head unit and a 5-disc changer in the trunk. Lately I have been leaving originals in there (ie. in the trunk), but I should prolly stop that.

I just wanted to thank everyone for the hugs and orgNotes 'n thangs before I slip off to slumberland. It's not exactly a death in the family or a serious illness, especially since I was essentially asking for this to happen- but I can't ingnore the response I got, so thank you all dearly.

Since I typed that up, I've discovered new things that were stolen! [whine-mode] I failed to mention the bastards popped my trunk (closing it afterward), jacking my overcoat, several pairs of shoes, sweatshirts, sweaters, and two photo albums. Ugh, seriously. My wardrobe was never large to begin with and I'm stuck with some awful getups I've been wearing to work. I'd immediately go buy more clothing if it weren't for me moving on the 1st into a townhouse with my good friend. We're strapped as it is. [/whine-mode]

What a week. I finally get my window fixed tomorrow.

Matt, this is actually covered on my father's homeowner's policy and I filed a claim... after a long tally, the adjuster told me they'd be sending a check for about $1500 (including the $400 cap for offsite compact disc losses). It brightened my mood until darling dad changed his mind about things once he found out he'd be penalized with higher premiums for three years. I don't blame him. This wasn't his fault and it's not worth it. So the check's not coming. I've got additional coverages on my auto policy that include custom stereo work and CDs/electronics, the coverage payout totaling a measly cap of $200. Not much at all, and I don't know if I'll even pursue it. Whatever.

The punks attempted to take my stereo, but it's got a theft-deterrent(sp?) cover on it and they gave up, only having popped off the plastic border. I popped it right back on and all's well there. Oh, Stu? I've been jamming around ghetto-style with my plastic-taped window to a certain album thanks to you. love Bless you.

And Nikster, I'd be here all night telling you the music I've lost. It'd end with me spazzing out and twitching on the floor in agony, so it's best I don't even think about it. smile Sidenote: do you still have my number? I miss hearing your accent! That goes for Matthew too.

Alright, it's too late for my old ass. Thanks again, guys.
Oh shit, my hat done fell off
