A Snake Got Into My Place Of Employment Today It wasn't in my department, but in the department right next to mine (and not too far away from my cubicle). I happened to walk by the area where the snake was, and saw people on their hands and knees looking for something. I didn't think too much of it, went back to my desk and continued working. It wasn't until the lady who sits in the cubical behind mine told me that there was a snake on the loose that I knew what was happening.
I went back to the area, and by then, the snake was hiding under one of the cubicle walls. There is a tunnel on the bottom of the cubicle wall that is covered by a plate of sorts. We had to take the plate off, put a box at the end of the wall, and someone used their belt to stick into the space at the bottom of the wall (since it was quite small), to shoo the snake out. It came out halfway, then seemed to kind of want to stay where it was when it realized that it was not alone. One of the guys reached down and pulled the snake out, it actually had pretty markings on it. It was a garter snake (not poisonous, but we have them everywhere here), and it was kind of small; I think it was still a baby. We took it outdoors and released it unharmed. What was funny was when I told some of my co-workers (who missed what happened because they were busy working) that we had a snake that was in the building. They were like, "You're kidding me! We had a SNAKE, in THIS building?" I told them, "I kid you not!" I'm not sure how the snake got in, but we all know how snakes can fit into very small cracks or holes in a building. This is not the first time that there has been a snake that came into the office; I guess this has happened before. Kind of makes sense, since the office building is surrounded by trees and a woodsy area. At least we were able to get the little snake out unharmed, and release him back into the woods, where it belonged. Had it stayed here in this building, it probably would have died. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you. | |
