I'm sorry to hear that.

My mother had it, though, about 20 years ago, and she's just fine now, she just has to take pills to get the homone that her missing thyroid supplied.

I don't want to imply that it's not serious, but I often forget that it even happened because it hardly affected her in the long run.

ok, so first appointment with the otorhinolaryngologist. (ear/nose/throat doctor) we don't really know alot more than before. she goes in tomorrow morning for a CT scan to find out if it's in her lymph nodes. we know for sure it is papillary carcinoma, but won't know if there is a combination of papillary/follicular carcinoma (which is a bit more aggressive) until they take it out. we also won't know what stage it's in until they take it out.

he told her it has to come out. my sis wants to keep her thyroid, and so is looking into alternative therapies and treatments. i'm really worried. i'm afraid that if she delays too long it will be too late. the doctor said she needs to make a decision within the next month. so, what if she decides on one of these other treatments, wastes 6 months on that, finds out it doesn't work, and then decides to go for the thyroidectomy and finds out the cancer has spread to her lungs or bones??

sigh

one good thing, next week we're going to the cancer treatment center in tulsa, ok. i looked on their website, and it seems that they look at other treatments too, not just surgery. so, i'm hoping that if they look at everything and STILL say she needs the surgery she will heed their word a bit more than the single-minded midwestern doctors here.

i'm frustrated, b/c this is such an easy cancer to cure. why does she have to make this so much more difficult than it needs to be? sigh

i am glad she is having the scan and going to the treatment center as well. the more she talks to doctors instead of reading scary things on the net the better.
you know how i feel... knowledge is power.
hopefully she will make her decision based on knowledge and not on fear

and maybe a little tough love wouldn't hurt either hug

Keep in mind, Hill, the power of belief... if she doesn't feel good about surgery, having it may make her feel worse, psychologically speaking. If she believes in the natural cure, it has a better chance of working.

It's kind of hard at this moment, I know... but please try to believe in her. She needs all the positive energy she can get... hug It's just fear, Hillster.

I am sorry to be so blunt Heiress but this is absolute categorical bullshit! I agree that a good positive attitude along with the recommended treatment is better than being down and scared about the treatment but sitting back and pretending it will all be ok if you have faith and eat a few mashed up leaves is SERIOUSLY asking for trouble on this one.

You know where I stand on this FI and I really believe by consulting the complementary therapists soon will lead her to make the right choice.
