Less than 24 hours in the hospital = $32,000!!!

I just openned Drew's itemized statement from St. Francis Hospital. He was transfered from the Medical Center to St. Francis for the cath, angioplasty, and one stent (which took less than 40 mins- I've a filling take longer!). He spent the night and was released the next day at 12 noon. He spent less than 24 hours there and the bill is... $32,688.65 He spent 10 days at the Medical Center (5 days in ICU) and that bill is $10,421.

$43,109.65 We're looking at about $9,621.93 in out of pocket expenses... AGAIN! They charged $23.55 for one Plavix pill- retail is $4.83- and charged $.60 for one Aspirin- retail is $0.01!!! disbelief

But he's so much better! He's the Drew 7 months ago before the brain tumor surgery! I came home from work last Friday- he did laundry, washed dished, vacuumed and was balancing his check book!! He hasn't done any of that since June of 2005.

Thank you and Me2!!!! hug

Yes the money part sucks but we have it. I was just a little shocked- his brain tumor surgery (which was wayyyyy more involved) was less than the heart procedure. I mean really the heart procedure was a cake walk compaired to the tumor surgery! Anyway, his tax return from that is going to pay off the new medical bills.

I'm just happy he's alive and better than ever! woot!

For real! I work in a pharmacy and see how much drugs cost and what the patient is charged. I also see doctors writing scripts for the newest most expensive drugs when a tried-n-true generic will work just the same.

That is so much money ,you are lucky you can afford to pay it ..how do poor people in America pay for hospital bills if they get sick?

I'm glad Drew is better too hug

It reminds me of my friends Mum who went to Florida about 5 years ago , she is an alcoholic and goes nuts when she drinks. So she always had dramatic heart attacks and had to be rushed to hospital for tests , but there was never anything wrong with her she is nuts ..so anyway she has a medical card so every hospital/doctor visit for her is free and she never pays anything for her tablets etc . So in Florida she had a big dramatic 'drunk' heart attack ,stayed in hospital overnight was tested for everything ..three weeks later at home in Dublin she received a bill for $9000 from the Florida hospital evillol

I think it was her last pretend heart attack!

Take care, both. hug
