Windows Media Player vs WinAmp... which one is better?

Cuz it seems my Windows Media Player is not really happy with 26.000 MP3's to handle, which results in slowness, playing songs with gaps in them etc.

Which media player is best?

And are there other media that maybe are even better?

Help me out here.

That's kinda odd to hear Windows Media Player choking up on MP3's. Might be another problem with your computer, like spyware or too many programs running in the background.

Winamp is alright. I don't really care for the interface when playing MP3s, it's a bit cumbersome and too compact to be adding and removing alot of tracks. I usually have to stare at it for a bit to remember what buttons do what. It has nice visualizations though, and you can shrink it down real small when you're playing streaming radio, which is nice. Also, some of the audio plugins are cool.

I don't trust WinAmp. It's made by Nullsoft, who've been rumored for making spyware in the past.
But Windows Media Player is still to clunky and the memory stamp on your sistem is still too big.

A good alternative to these is RealOne Player by RealNetworks. It doesn't choke like Media Player does, and it playes .wma which Itunes won't do. Itunes will convert .wma automatically to mp3, but only if the .wma is unprotected (naturally).

Winamp is for real audiophiles: a truly customizable player.

I used to use WinAmp all the time. Somewhere along the line of building different systems, I just went with Media Player so I didn't have to bother with the installation, etc. I don't listen to music on my computer much since I'm playing games on it a good portion of the time. I have a stereo nearby if I really want to listen to both music and my game at the same time.

I guess I really didn't answer your question. lol

I guess this is opion based info. However I like Windows Media Player. It is secure, well more secure then WinAmp, and it is almost customary with a "Windows" computer.

However, and mind you, I am not the type of person that lets a program do anything else then it's base function for my computer.

I think most of that shit is just bells and wistles of crap.

I have programs not searching for, utilizing, nor checking for, anything.

You have to go and do all this sort of stuff manually because the programs defaults are to be a pain in the ass.

What I save is RAM space and Processor useage.

Oh Geeze, sorry about the rant.

Windows Media Player does me just fine. wink

For me Media Player does what it does well enough to not add an additional program.

However, i've got old MOD soundfiles that are in .mod, .xm and .it formats that WinAmp handles for me.

Haven't made the leap to lightspeed into "i-world" yet (iPod, iTunes).

With that many mp3s you'll be wanting a decent smart playlist/shuffle play function. In which case, iTunes is definitely the way to go. Also, it has a nice shiny look and has an "i" at the start of the name, so it must be the best.
