are you sure that, eventho the kitty was potty trained, that it knew, where in your girlfriends place to go to the bathroom?
kojo, my sister's old kitty didnt know when we first moved him in2 her apartment...we actually had to use some of her baby daughter's dirty diapers and put them in kojo's litter box...as a way of he wanting to mark his place.... we only needed 2 do that once, and since then he's known where 2 go...

Yup. Following the advice of the peeps at the adoption agency, we introduced the kitty to the house in baby steps - she kept the cat in her room with all of the necessary stuff (cat box, food, toys, etc).... we would regularly show the kitty where the cat box was, etc and for some reason he pooped on the couch 3 times.

to you for adopting a kitten instead of buying one from a pet store...
did kitty seem to be unhappy? nervous? or just not too bright?

I LOOOOVE black cats!!! I think the main reason why I've always opted for black cats is some Freudian attempt at rejecting the superstition that they are evil or bad luck. I used to have three boy cats, not from the same litter, but one year apart, and they loved and protected each other (and ME!) like family! I miss my babies! They were named Roosevelt, Brahms, and Lil'-Baby-boo-boo-jou. They were all incredibly neurotic and spoiled and I'm going to have to do everything I can in my old age to not become one of those "Crazy Cat Lady" people....I swear the only thing that keeps me in check is remembering that crazy cult film on Jackie Bouvier's aunt "Grey Gardens" and how when you're old you just can't have all those damn cats...but I LOVE them...I'm trying to switch to dogs though. I live in a city where dogs are an intregal part of everday life, they chill with you at cafes, they can ride the buses and trains, they have tether stands outside of the grocery stores, and are allowed in many clothing stores as well, as long as it's not a luxury goods place...my flat's not that big, so if I want a pet it might be better for me to have a doggy this time around because I spend a lot of time outside and they really could go nearly EVRYWHERE with me, even when I just go out for a coffee.... in my heart of hearts I love kitties more though , but I'm not set up to have an indoor/outdoor kitty and the poo-poo smell would drive me NUTS !

Dogs are just too much to care for especially as puppies. I just don't think I could deal with the house training,so I doubt I'll ever get a dog. I don't mind pet sitting dogs for a few days, but having one for years is out of the question for now. I do like the fact that they're very loyal and protective though. looking for you in the woods tonight Switch FC SW-2874-2863-4789 (Rum&Coke)

Hehehe. My cats did not even SHOW themselves until after two months and Girl had an anal infection, so I had to run after her with a cloth for the first month.
Even though these were pet shelter animals, and it was hard to cure them out of their neuroses, the cats I have NOW, after four years... wonderful. WOudln't want to miss them.
