ew, i'm sorry. i haven't been to the dentist in an embarrassingly long time. i saw a dvd today with iggy pop on it where he had lost a tooth, and i thought "oh my god, even though i've never been a junkie and i never punch myself in the mouth, i don't want that to be me!"

so i might be making an appointment soon. and you should too. do you have any clove oil? i used to keep that around the house for toothaches. doesn't do a miraculous job, but it helps.

hug i just had a tooth refilled a few weeks ago...the filling fell out while i was brushing my teeth omg

it's not so bad, they'll either give you laughing gas, or if you get the needle, you won't feel it because they'll put some ambisol on the gum first
you'll be fine

and me, having 5+years of dental work done...im petrified of the dentist...never liked going
i'd always cry or get sick... sad

you'll be alright hun hug

I don't have any clove oil, but that sounds nice.
But I think I may take some ibuprophen. It's spreading into giving me a headache. And I never take anything for anything. I take maybe 10 pills a year and that's usually cause of a few of bad, bad hangovers. ( redface )
I will call them on monday.

harrumph.

i don't know how close you are to a drug store, but they all sell little bottles of clove oil with little tiny tweezers and eensy weensy cotton balls. you soak the cotton ball in the clove oil and then use the tweezers to rest it where your toothache is happening. it used to be really helpful when i used to have hellacious toothaches. if it gets worse, you should have a kitty go pick some up for you. nod

They had to have me come back a econd time to finsih my cleaning as they couldn't do it all in one sitting.

The good news was, ONLY 2 CAVITIES!!!

Best go ASAP, though. Cavities left to fester end up requiring root canals. omg

Hope you feel better real soon, Carrie. rose

Motrin...and, if you have it on hand, rub a little pure vanilla extract on it. Or, chew a little piece of a fresh clove of garlic until your dentist can see you. smile

Take Motrin, anti-inflammatory, and Tylenol, pain killer, together it will help. Your tooth plup is infected and when infected it swells. It has nowhere to expand so it constricts the nerve and causes the pain. Motrin will reduce the swelling and Tylenol will help with the pain. I wish I could give you some of my Vicodin. You wouldn't feel shit!

You don't have to have a cavity to have a toothache. Have you used any whitening products? Sometimes the ingredients can aggreate your teeth. You should call your dentist- he'll xray your tooth and send you home with an antibiotic and hydrocodone. Your tooth may improve in a few days or you may need a root canal- either way don't put it off. It could cost you a tooth- and $2200 to replace it, which is what happened to me.

hug I'll mail ya some pain pills but it will take a few days.

Thanks. Sounds like good advice.

It's much worse today, actually. My gums are quite swolen in the one spot and all purple. sad I will be calling the dentist first thing in the morning. Hopefully, they can get me in right away.
I suppose my healthy teeth couldn't stay that way forever. It's just so odd how it came on so fast and since I've never ever had a tooth problem before.

I'm sorry to hear of the pain you are having.

It's just a thought, but it occured to me when you said how quickly this came on and how swollen your gums are -- have you eaten anything in recent days that might've gotten wedged into your gums? Like popcorn, apple skin, corn, something like that? One time I had a lot of pain and some bleeding near a tooth and, when I went to the dentist, he discovered there was a piece of apple skin stuck in there. He got it out and within a few days things were much better.

I hope your dentist can get you in right away and that you feel better soon. rose hug

And that was my first thought, actually, but I can't think of anything it might be... It started after my lunch of carrots and a protein shake yesterday. Neither of which, I don't think, is prone to sticking in the gums. lol. But it totally felt like something stuck in there all yesterday and I kept trying to get it out and then I thought maybe it was sore from all my prodding and flossing. This morning I thought, wow, I must have made it worse and really got something stuck in there. So maybe that's just it. I hope so. I don't want unhealthy teeth. sad

sad

If the swelling and pain is worse today from flossing and prodding at the spot, what might be of help is to rinse your mouth out often (every couple hours or so) with warm salt water. Swish the salt water around for about a minute or two. It tastes gross, but it DOES help heal those irritated tissues, and will take down the swelling. My dentist advised me to do that in the past when I've had dental work.

It's possible some very small particle of food is stuck down deep in your gumline. Especially from how you described how all this came on so suddenly, and that sensation of something being stuck in there.

You won't have unhealthy teeth, Carrie. Sounds like on the contrary -- you have very strong teeth! (I wish I could say I have had no cavities or fillings!)

Hang in there. hug
