Art lovers! I love paintings. I like portraits best.
One of my favest painters is Vermeer, but for a long time finding GOOD quality scans online of his work was HELL... Browsing, browsing, browsing... If you had the same problems, lemme solve them. I have found the answer. It can be found at; http://www.wga.hu/ This site has a GREAT collection of GREAT scans of all the GREAT European artists. Well, most of them. They advertise, saying; 'The Web Gallery of Art is a virtual museum and searchable database of European painting and sculpture of the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque periods (1100-1850), currently containing over 14.500 reproductions. Commentaries on pictures, biographies of artists are available. Guided tours, free postcard and other services are provided for the visitors.' If you click on individual artist, then you can magnify their work, then safe it to harddrive in a very good quality. Please go check it out! I found GREAT stuff by Vermeer (actually ALL of his 36 [?] paintings), Bronzino, Ghirlandaio, Holbein, Velazquez, Breugel, Bosch, Sanzio (Rafael for short), Buonarotti (Michaelangelo for short), van Eyck and Titian, to just name a few of my faves. But this thread is especially for Muse, who will be VERY content to browse through the pages of this Dutch fellow called van Rijn, Rembrandt for short. Go browse, Muse. They even made a handy selection of his biblical paintings, I suppose especially for you. Go safe to hard drive! Here's the portrait of Giovanna Tornabuoni by Domenico Ghirlandaio, one of my faves. | |
