Moderator | New Harry Potter Movie ... Yey or Nay? I missed out on the reviews when it came out in the theaters. So now I'm considering going over to Circuit City for lunch and picking up a copy there. (13.99 - hey, not bad)
So should I rent it or buy it. I own the other 3 that I'm saving for my son perhaps when he's a little older. (3 and a half right now) I gotta admit, I've really grown to like this story. What did you guys think of the last movie? All Rights Reserved. |

I loved it! I bought it yesterday.
If you're anything like me...buy it...you'll want to watch it repeatedly. I saw it 3 times in theaters. But I'm partial to them. I'm firmly planted in denial

Loved it!
And Jarvis Cocker of Pulp did the soundtrack and has a tiny cameo in it. [Edited 3/8/06 9:14am] "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven

GOF is both my favorite book and movie from the series. Listen to me on The House of Pop Culture podcast on itunes http://itunes.apple.com/u...d438631917

It's my favourite out of the whole series so far. It has everything in good amounts and is incredibly entertaining.
The only thing that annoyed me a little bit was that everybody's so damn nice, including the people Potter is competing against. A bit more rivalry would have made it more interesting. Voldemort seems more and more like the only threat, and not even he seems all that dangerous. I'm hoping for tougher challenges in the next one. Still though, it's a fantastic movie. Real on-screen magic!

I will be an opposing voice in this thread.
I enjoyed the movie, but it was not my favorite of the series. I actually left feeling let-down. This COULD be that I had literally just finished reading the book the day before the movie opened, but...it just seemed that some VERY important polt points were left out or glossed over. I know some of this had to be done due to length, but I feel like they are creating story gaps which may be hard to fill as the series progress. I dunno, it was pretty, it was good. But it wasn't great for me.

I hadn't thought about this before, but I completely agree with you!

Loved the book, liked the movie..it just seems to have lost the 'magic' quality of the earlier movies.
Voldemort wasn't the way I imagined him. He just seemed way too manic running around the graveyard etc. I pictured him more dark and powerful, breaking out into sudden rages. That whole "I can touch you now, ha ha" scene was a little weird. In terms of action though definately an entertaining movie with a good sense of humour about it.

I will be interested to see how they make up for these later. "What a lovely fat beat with a zompige baslijn"
