Dana Reeve, widow of Christopher Reeve, dies of lung cancer

NEW YORK (AP) - Dana Reeve, who fought for better treatments and possible cures for paralysis through the Christopher Reeve Foundation, named for her late actor-husband, has died.

Reeve, 44, died late Monday of lung cancer, said Kathy Lewis, president and CEO of the foundation.

"On behalf of the entire Board of Directors and staff of the Christopher Reeve Foundation, we are extremely saddened by the death of Dana Reeve, whose grace and courage under the most difficult of circumstances was a source of comfort and inspiration to all of us," Lewis said in a statement.

This is so sad. As a fan of Christopher Reeve I was saddened upon his death...and now this. Dana was a strong woman. Very sad for the family.

Heard this this morning. One of her kids is 13, poor kid.

WOW!It takes alot to make me cry, but this has done it. How sad . Please for their children that has to be devastating to them.

This is just sad. She was so young And how quickly it happened. My best friend had an ex boyfriend that one day woke up with a stomach ache and went to the doctor and was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. 3 weeks later he was dead. It's just scary how quickly these things can sometimes be

So very tragic. They left a legacy of love and courage for their children.

This news was really sad to me.

I guess once she told the world of the lung cancer a while back, it was probally worst than she let on. Kind of reminds me of Johnnie Cochran with his brain cancer. The world found out not too long ago when he died, but at least two years ago I heard rumor of this information which was about when he disappeared from the lime light. Same thing for Lou Rawls who died recently of brain cancer and lung cancer. According to the tabloids, he was diagnosed a year ago.
The world has lost a crusader. So Sad.

If I ever had a daughter, I'd want her to grow up to be like Dana Reeve.

That is so sad. Something similar happened to some friends of my parents, a married couple. The man died very suddenly of a heart attack at age 35 which led his wife to start smoking like crazy...which in turn gave her lung cancer. She passed away last year at age 52. Their poor kids have had a rough time and although they are now adults it must be really tough to lose your parents that early.
