I've smoked weed in the past but don't do it here in Thailand. I'd much rather be smoking weed than these damn cigarettes though. I can't quit and stay off them for good.

Over a period of 3 or 4 days I once did a lot of yaa-baa ('crazy medicine' - amphetamines) just before I went back to the UK. I didn't sleep for 3 days and was a hysterical wreck when it came to getting on the plane and going home. In the end when I came down I was in a lot of pain, so restless. My friend literally had to hold my hand and take me through the airport I didn't stop crying all the way home. After that I knew I'd never touch anything harder than weed again, and even that I've just not really bothered with since. I don't think I've smoked weed in well over a year. I may not ever again, I can take it or leave it.

i haven't had weed in a long time. i love the smell of it.

You're right Amphetamines aren't nice at all , i'll never use that again

Thats all good and fine, if they do the odd spliff or two.....However don't forget that some people (NOTE: SOME not All) who turn to harder drugs, Heroin etc, also turn to crime to feed their habit. So drug use has a lot to do with morality in certain circumstances.

I used to live in a shared house where the other residents did a lot of weed, it sometimes was like living in an episode of The Young Ones, however I have yet to meet someone who could redesign the Eiffel Tower in a spate of creativity after puffing several spliffs !! Everybody I know used to get the giggles and eventually fall asleep (or pass out).

Mick G - I dont presume to be better than you, I do not know you, however my comment was that I hoped you did not / would not encourage your kids to do such things.

My thoughts on this....

1) There's nothing wrong with staying straight-edge.

2) On the other hand, I see nothing inherently wrong with altering one's state of consciousness either. People have been doing it throughout human history.

3) If you choose to use a drug, be sure to research it first and learn as much as possible about what you're about to put in your body.

4) Also do some research on "harm reduction." This involves things like ecstasy testing kits, needle exchange programs, etc.

5) While you're at, visit the ACLU website and read their advice about how to handle a police encounter. Unless you've got a prescription for the drug, or it's a small amount of marijuana, mere possession of the drug is probably a felony.

6) Be very careful about mixing drugs. One combo that seems to be really dangerous is two depressants/"downers," as they often work in synergy. For instance, one member of my high school graduating class is now dead because he took GHB and alcohol at the same time. Killing yourself on GHB alone is very difficult. But if you add alcohol, you seriously increase the risk.

I kid alot around here about marijuana, but the truth is, I've never used drugs.
Sure, my edge is pretty straight...
& my creativity is pretty much lacking...
& my wit is dry,
my personality flat,
my charisma extinguished, my opinions indifferent, my spirits crushed,
my depth thin, my logic is dull, jaded & redundantly pointless...
hell, even my sexual adventurism is nil to the point where I'm almost sure that my virginity has returned....!
but
at least my mind is clear. Cognizant...of all these things...
these things which are multitude the dimensions that make me me.

Don't go there...drugs wont make things better!

Thanks for all the interesting advice, folks. You know as hard as it is, I am gonna contiue living a clean and healthy life. I just sometimes feel pressured to try it since many of my friends and family see it as no big deal. But I think I'm already crazy enough. Drugs would only make it worse.
