why do you think some people lie.... What Is a Lie?
A lie is an untruth, a deviation, big or small, from what is known to be real. It is a false statement deliberately presented as being true, thus misrepresenting a situation or giving a totally wrong impression about something. There are generally two types of lies - innocent lies, which do little or no damage, and blantant lies, which can do detriment to the deceiver or the deceived when the truth is found Why do people lie....is it for: the money to escape embarrassment for a good laugh to stay out of jail feel better about themselves for approval from others no turning back once the lie has been told lie to cover lies a few other reasons people lie is for: Greed - for power, for advantage, for money, for admiration Fear - we are sometimes driven to lie by fear - usually of what will happen if we tell the truth Acceptance - no man is an island. We find ourselves doing whatever it takes to be accepted, to be liked and appreciated Habit - compulsive liars lie compulsively because they are used to it i love you for who you are, not the one u feel u need to be.

I have lied to a good friend recently, and I feel absolutely awful about it. But if he knew the truth it would hurt him a lot, and needlessly, theres no positives to telling him. Maybe on day...
In general though, I cant stand liars. People who just lie all the time, and it gets to a point where you never believe a word they say again. They bring it on themselves though, and Ive no idea why they do it. Insecurity perhaps? I dont think they can stop once they start though.

I agree. I think people lie because they are afraid of the consequences if they admit the truth, or afraid that they will be thought less of, or are ashamed of their actions.

People lie approximately 75 times a day.

I do that. It's the only time I lie on a regular basis. Silly stuff like if I finish work early and someone asks when I got home, I'll just lie and say half an hour ago instead of 4 hours ago, cos I just can't be arsed explaining why we didn't have enough work in

the more someone admits to being a liar, the more i tend to trust them. is that weird? i think everyone lies. it's just that the really honest people tell the truth about it sooner or later.

"People of the Lie" written by Scott Peck. Scary reading. As equality grows, violence declines.

What is the truth? To understand what a lie is one must first have a clear picture of what truth is. Truth isn't a clear picture. We have personal truths, public perception of events unfolded as truth, inner truths, heavenly truths and truths that are only known by a few or one.
What is the truth? Was Christoper Columbus lying when he said the world was round? Everyone percieve other wise. Many called him a lier. As a ground rule, people lie to get what they want, however on the flip side, people believe a lie to get what they want too. Somepeople would rather believe a lie then to face the truth. Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so. You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.
