I can't sleep so I'm punishing myself with porridge I know at least a few of you crazies will click on this thread to find out how you punish yourself with porridge, hence the title
I couldn't sleep last night so I've been in bed for hours, too stubborn to get some med to make me sleep (I get so fuzzy headed the next day ) but not tired enough to fall asleep. My brain keeps thinking of what I'm gonna do tomorrow (now today ) which is stupid cos it doesn't take a great deal of planning - walking the dog, do some laundry, get some x-rays taken and maybe see my dad... no biggie so WHY WHY WHY won't my brain shut off properly sometimes? I'm a blonde dammit, there's nobody home up there anyway! There, done venting... oh yeah, the porridge... I like porridge so it's what I'm having for breakfast.

It isn't about getting your brain to shut off.
It is about transitioning between alpha and beta though paterns. One thing I do is I think about an old house or town I use to live in years ago. I imagine I am walking through the house or drving through the town. I try to recall all the feelings about the places and smells I can as I walk or ride. Before you know it this will spark off a dream. Sweet dreams. News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so. You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

Thanks for the tip though, I will try it next time.

Whats this about alpha and beta waves? Somebody educate me Alpha waves are more active during the day, and the beta waves is what makes us creative, sorta. Unfortunately the beta waves are more active at night, which is one reason artists of all kinds tend to keep weird hours.

Funny, try this, it absolutely works for me:
When you're laying in bed, stubbornly staring at the ceiling or trying to make yourself sleep, the best approach is to lay there with your eyes closed and tell yourself you're going to make yourself stay awake all night. and then TRY to do it. Sometimes our brains like a little reverse psychology. Works like a charm.

i just read a scary article on MSNBC online news about how the sleeping drug - Ambien - is being found to cause all kinds of driving accidents. it's turning up in people's bloodstreams. some of these folks don't even remember getting into the car and driving....

Oh yeah, that's not the only sleeping drug that does shit like that. When I needed to be on them I'd walk the dog in the morning, go back to bed and when I woke up again I had no idea what kind of weather it had been outside, what jacket I'd been wearing etc. I did know that I'd been out though, it was weird

i hate porridge...do you put salt in it or sugar? Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

Sometimes our brains like a little reverse psychology. Works like a charm. Yeah, I've had trouble sleeping in the last couple of years, and I've found something like that to help a lot. Whatever is keeping me awake, instead of fighting it, I focus on it. Some sort of noise? I listen intently. Thinking about something I have to do? I think it through in crazy detail.
