I think the prison thing made me not like her even more.... she was basically in an old folks home. lol She probably benefited mentally with her short sentence....at least she was away from the media and madness. People are acting like she just did time at Rikers Island lol

How?

Are you the one with the bags in the pic you posted.

Some race issue....I don't think she is really(a trader). It's from what I heard on the news and from other people. Don't know why.

Do you mean the pic with the eagle and my son? Yes.

I think the Oprah backlash is just plain jealousy over her fame and fortune. Plus she has never been involved in any big dirty scandals, no drugs, and even got her man under control.

I like Oprah. I watch her show nearly everyday. Even still, I think that for somebody with so much knowledge and life experience she can be incredibly naive and dismissive. She was shocked...SHOCKED...a couple of years ago when the Queer Eye guys were on her show and one of them talked about being in the closet. She genuinely was not aware that there were still people who were closeted about their sexuality (and it wasn't one of those moments where she's speaking for the audience). When she doesn't "get something," like sex addiction, she has a tendency to be dismissive and a bit rude even if that's not her intention.

I think Oprah just fronts sometimes like she's unaware - I'm not sure WHY she does it, but I'd bet $ that she does it. Maybe it's just to really dumb down the point & make it kindergarden for everyone in America to be able to understand it, I dunno.

My best example of said "frontin'" geek is when Bernie Mac was on the show a while back. They were talking about Chicago (Bernie was born there) & he started talking about what establishment made the best hot links.

Oprah: Hot link? What is a "hot link"? I've never had a "hot link" eek

Bernie: neutral

Why does everyone on this site talk so negatively about Oprah? Here is a woman who has built homes for Katrina victims using her own money, who built a medical refuge in Ethiopia for poor women suffering from fistulas, and is currently using her show to catch child molesters.

This is a woman who, at four years old,was forced to sleep outside on the porch alone because she was "too dark" to sleep inside. A woman who was repeatedly raped by numerous relatives, and is now a self-made millionare. I can't think of one evil thing that Oprah has ever done. Why all the hatred?

She's also seen as a "man hater", usually by men who have never actually watched the show. rolleyes I think those guys don't like her because she's someone who encourages other women not to put up with shit. shrug

On the other hand, she can occasionally come off a bit grandiose and full of herself. But, ya know what? She's one of the very few people who deserves to.

i don't approve of the way she handled the james frey situation. i think she completely dismissed literary tradition in order to (in HER eyes) clear her name and drag frey through the mud. now, as a result, the trend is to scrutinize the hell out of any writer who does autobiographical work. i read that augustin burroughs' new book of short stories is being thoroughly inspected by a team of fact checkers to make sure he didn't fictionalize anything. the dude writes HUMOR that's BASED on his life. but ya know, oprah set a precedent, and now all those shady modern writers have to pay.

i think william burroughs' body should be exhumed and put in writer's jail because i don't think 'queer' and 'junky' were all 100% true.

heaven forbid imagination should be a part of literature, and heaven forbid writers should own their lives.

and i've heard the arguments, and some of them i understand. i just think oprah really jacked it up for authors right now. and that's why, as someone who considers himself a writer and had actually been thinking about writing autobiographical short stories, i say she can kiss my ass.

The way she handled the situation was very clumsy, and I think she'll admit that. But I think her real issue was not so much that he would fictionalize an autobiography, but that he straight-up lied to her face about it. I think it's fine to do what Frey did in writing the book, but when asked if the details were true, he should have said no. Oprah helped to make that man a bazillionaire, and he looked her in the eye and lied to her. I don't blame her for being pissed.

In her decades in the public eye, she has made missteps. But I also think she has done an awful lot of good. I grew up watching her show, and I think I'm a better person for it. shrug

I get what you mean, but I think she was serious this time. Later on in that same episode, she had the chance to use one of her favorite expressions - "Wait...I just had an epiphany (she's had more of them than the rest of the world combined). It makes sense to me now why people are still closeted!" brick

In her defense, could it be that she does not have closeted people in her life? Being in the entertainment industry, there is no hiding and perhaps her own personal experience to the issue blinded her a bit to the actual reality.

That could very well be the case. The point I was making earlier is just that for somebody so knowledgeable and wordly, she can be incredibly naive. Some of that probably comes with being so famous, but I've always thought some of that comes from an unwillingness to step outside of her comfort zone or what she thinks is the status quo.

I like Oprah, but sometimes I feel like she's trying to be too many things at once. When she interviews people nowdays, particularly celebrities, it doesn't really even feel like a conversation. It just seems like a scripted infomercial to peddle a movie or a book or whatever.

...It drives me crazy that she cuts people off so much. She'll ask a question, they'll get three or four words into their answer, and she'll move on.

But, yeah, I like her.

I don't like her. I have to agree, however, that she has done more good than most and she often uses her "celebrity" in an altruistic manner. That said - she irritates me beyond all get out. A guest could be discussing having their legs amputated and Oprah will interrupt with something like, "Yes. I once had a bruise on my ankle. It was horrific." She had the stars from "Friends" on her show in the late 90s (early 00s, perhaps) and it happened to be the day the Emmy nominations came out. She said, "I have some great news!" and I thought for sure she'd say something to the effect of "Friends", "Matt LeBlanc", and "Matthew Perry" each garnered nominations (which they did) - but instead she said, "The Oprah Winfrey Show has been nominaaaaateeeed!" in that annoying, deep voice thing that she does. She seems to have to either one-up a guest or sympathize to the point of cutting-off someone to tell of her own personal struggles - regardless of the subject matter!

WOW, didn't she keep mum about this until she had the dude on the show? confuse I mean, did she actually say anything about it other than when she had dude on her show?

I'm just trying to figure why she's so "wrong" for clearing up the media hype confused Sure it was staged, but it undid any tarnish for Hermes & made everyone look good.

I must have missed the part where she was crying in the media over it... neutral

The incident occurred when Winfrey stopped by Hermes on June 14 to buy a watch minutes after the boutique closed. Though she and three friends said they saw shoppers inside, neither a sales clerk nor manager would let them in.
Winfrey believes the store's staff had identified her, according to a spokeswoman from Harpo Production Inc., her company. Winfrey's friend, Gayle King, who was there, told Entertainment Tonight, "Oprah describes it as 'one of the most humiliating moments of her life.' " Harpo says Winfrey plans to discuss the incident in the context of race relations on her show this fall.
Hermes said in a statement it "regrets not having been able to welcome" Winfrey to the store, but that "a private public relations event was being prepared inside." The store did not respond to calls seeking comment.

Oprah Winfrey should spend a little mo' time with her head out of her own ass!
after all,she is human and we all need air...
the manner in which she turned on James Frey was disgusting and callous,a contrived attack on national television.nice going bigshot!
I was sickened to see her berate this guy in front of all of her sheep.I hope she felt better about herself after doing so.
also, how does a woman who refuses to be married nor has any children of her own become such an authority on parental and homemaking skills?
Oprah has alot of dim-witted,insecure people fooled me thinks.
just last week Bruce Willis went on a very humorous Oprah rant.he was also put off by her bullying tactics on James Frey.Bruce Willis proposed the question "why did she tear this Frey guy a new ass on her show but gives all of her showbiz buddies free passes when they come on?"
why did Oprah throw Bill Clinton so many softballs when she interviewed him?
why didn't Mr. Clinton get blasted for his "un-moral" conduct?
I guess it is easier to pick fights with people who are of lesser value huh?
