Why does everyone on this site talk so negatively about Oprah? Here is a woman who has built homes for Katrina victims using her own money,who built a medical refuge in Ethiopia for poor women suffering from fistulas, and is currently using her show to catch child molesters.

This is a woman who, at four years old,was forced to sleep outside on the porch alone because she was "too dark" to sleep inside. A woman who was repeatedly raped by numerous relatives, and is now a self-made millionare. I can't think of one evil thing that Oprah has ever done. Why all the hatred?

I don't hate her. But she better come get her lambs.

I don't get it either. She has my utmost respect

others are jealous

Oprah's cool.... she does a lot of great things for a lot of people.

On the other hand, she can occasionally come off a bit grandiose and full of herself. But, ya know what? She's one of the very few people who deserves to.

A lot of people see her as fake and is she perhaps caught up in her rich world? Sometimes the answer is yes, as it would be for anyone of wealth. But she never forgets where she came from and what it took to come from there to where she is now. I love Oprah

Some race issue....I don't think she is really(a trader). It's from what I heard on the news and from other people. Don't know why.

I think people want to know how the fuck a talk show host makes so much friggin' money?

She is proberly the reason why other people started talk shows, which for many (including myself), is not a good thing.


Talk shows are silly things to me, but i know its more of a girly thing.

I just don't care for the new Oprah. She kinda seems like a celebrity ass kisser now. Her shows don't have as much substance as they did years ago. She was recently in Charleston as part of her tour, and don't you know people paid $125 to see her that is fuckin' insane. I think the money goes to some kind of charity, but still that is way too much to pay to see Oprah. One of my roommate said that she didn't think that was too much for Oprah, but she's one of those girls who act as if Oprah is a god. I heard she gave out goody bags though.

She mentioned the other day that she was basically born into a society where it was illegal to be black and to have come from there to where she is now....she acknowledges this and anyone who calls her a traitor has issues.

I like Oprah. I watch her show nearly everyday. Even still, I think that for somebody with so much knowledge and life experience she can be incredibly naive and dismissive. She was shocked...SHOCKED...a couple of years ago when the Queer Eye guys were on her show and one of them talked about being in the closet. She genuinely was not aware that there were still people who were closeted about their sexuality (and it wasn't one of those moments where she's speaking for the audience). When she doesn't "get something," like sex addiction, she has a tendency to be dismissive and a bit rude even if that's not her intention.

It drives me crazy that she cuts people off so much. She'll ask a question, they'll get three or four words into their answer, and she'll move on. She does a tremendous amount of good, and that should be acknowledged. Many times, she is the first to acknowledge the good she does. I wouldn't say she's a "man hater," but she definitely needs to get a male perspective on her show more often. Yes, her show is geared towards women, but it should be more balanced. Every show she's ever done about infidelity, it's always "mean cheat cuz they're horn dogs and women do it cuz they're sad and lonely and have empty nest syndrome."

The best thing she's done for her show in recent years is bring out Dr. Robyn Smith. I love that women. She knows her stuff, and I wish she had her own TV show (she's getting a show on XM when Oprah's network on there launches). Oprah should seek therapy from her.

But, yeah, I like her.

i don't approve of the way she handled the james frey situation. i think she completely dismissed literary tradition in order to (in HER eyes) clear her name and drag frey through the mud. now, as a result, the trend is to scrutinize the hell out of any writer who does autobiographical work. i read that augustin burroughs' new book of short stories is being thoroughly inspected by a team of fact checkers to make sure he didn't fictionalize anything. the dude writes HUMOR that's BASED on his life. but ya know, oprah set a precedent, and now all those shady modern writers have to pay.

i think william burroughs' body should be exhumed and put in writer's jail because i don't think 'queer' and 'junky' were all 100% true.

heaven forbid imagination should be a part of literature, and heaven forbid writers should own their lives.

and i've heard the arguments, and some of them i understand. i just think oprah really jacked it up for authors right now. and that's why, as someone who considers himself a writer and had actually been thinking about writing autobiographical short stories, i say she can kiss my ass.

Oprah's alright. She does a lot of good work.

The reasons she bugs me though are pretty much the same as what's already been mentioned here. She comes across as being pretty high on herself, and I can't stand how she cuts people off and/or is dismissive of what they say if she doesn't quite get it. Did anyone see when she had Backstreet Boys on the show talking about AJ's substance abuse problem? She was cutting the guy off when he'd speak, and that takes some serious talent. Damn few can outtalk that Boy.

I love Oprah too.
