Wuthering heights

Ok, so my mum and dad were watching one of their oldies, so i thought "why not?", as nothing uch was going on that night.

Glad i did, its a pretty good (if dated in some ways) film.

And Lawrence Olivier is very good, as expected. Though on the bed scene, he does still remind me of a stage actor somewhat?

Anyone seen this version or any other film version? I guess i should read the book, anyone like it?

Same here. smile They made a made-for-tv movie not too long ago based on the book. I never saw that one either.

Reincarnate

I haven't seen the movie in years.
I hated Heathcliff in the book whereas in the film he comes across as a hero of sorts.

Any UK orgers would have to agree that how the hell could cliff richard be heathcliffe? I have never read the book, but lawrence, plays heathcliffe as a sorta strutting, strapping badboy. Maybe cliff chose a different approach for his stage version? But i cant see it, compared to oliviers performance

I know what you mean, Cliff Richard as Heathcliff is a travesty, in fact it should have been illegal!

I dont find olivier in the film attractive from a males point of view, but at least he shows some charisma and some menace

and he looks the part, but i cant see cliff brooding over anyone

Cliff couldn't menace my hamster ( not that I have one but you know what I mean)

Heathcliffe was more coarse/raw in the book than the way Olivier portrayed him, however Olivier has a lot of Charisma and can be very menacing, he did him justice worship

I LOVE that movie and the book. Although I only read it once ages ago, but the movie is haunting, beautiful, and romantic. TCM airs it every so often. That movie made me take notice of Sir Laurence Olivier.

Damn, that was heath and kathy?

I think this is the only film i have seen sir lawrence in. That and him starring opposite michale caine, in the kinda forgotten film "sleuth". Acting is impeccable by both of course.

? I think she's right. I mean, if u lived in the UK, u'd understand what cliff is all about. I seriously doubt his acting abilities, amonst many other factors, particually compared to lawrence.

I love this movie, and the book is really incredible too. Such an amazing novel for a young woman in the early 19th century.
Laurence Olivier is so so amazing. Although compared to the book the violence and menace of Healthcliff was toned down. Different times.

Yep I agree the violence isint shown much in the film. I dont like that part of Heathcliffs character..obviously. Has anyone read the sequel?
There is a book that describes what happened to Heathcliff during the years he disapeared. Its very graphic.!
