I can't sleep so I'm punishing myself with porridge

I know at least a few of you crazies will click on this thread to find out how you punish yourself with porridge, hence the title hah!

I couldn't sleep last night so I've been in bed for hours, too stubborn to get some med to make me sleep (I get so fuzzy headed the next day ) but not tired enough to fall asleep. My brain keeps thinking of what I'm gonna do tomorrow (now today mad ) which is stupid cos it doesn't take a great deal of planning - walking the dog, do some laundry, get some x-rays taken and maybe see my dad... no biggie so WHY WHY WHY won't my brain shut off properly sometimes? I'm a blonde dammit, there's nobody home up there anyway! mad

There, done venting... oh yeah, the porridge... I like porridge so it's what I'm having for breakfast. mr.green

It isn't about getting your brain to shut off.

It is about transitioning between alpha and beta though paterns.

One thing I do is I think about an old house or town I use to live in years ago. I imagine I am walking through the house or drving through the town. I try to recall all the feelings about the places and smells I can as I walk or ride. Before you know it this will spark off a dream.

Sweet dreams.

I know I know, the beta waves are more active during the night but they're the creative stuff and it's hard to let go of that. Thanks for the tip though, I will try it next time. hug

I'm still on sick leave so theoretically I could sleep all day when I'm not walking Uzie but I've got stuff to do so shrug I'm tired now though, might sneak a couple hours in now... I wish I was in Canada too! bawl

Alpha waves are more active during the day, and the beta waves is what makes us creative, sorta. Unfortunately the beta waves are more active at night, which is one reason artists of all kinds tend to keep weird hours.

Funny, try this, it absolutely works for me:

When you're laying in bed, stubbornly staring at the ceiling or trying to make yourself sleep, the best approach is to lay there with your eyes closed and tell yourself you're going to make yourself stay awake all night. and then TRY to do it. Sometimes our brains like a little reverse psychology.

Works like a charm. cloud9

Oh yeah, that's not the only sleeping drug that does shit like that. When I needed to be on them I'd walk the dog in the morning, go back to bed and when I woke up again I had no idea what kind of weather it had been outside, what jacket I'd been wearing etc. I did know that I'd been out though, it was weird nuts boxed

Yeah, I've had trouble sleeping in the last couple of years, and I've found something like that to help a lot.

Whatever is keeping me awake, instead of fighting it, I focus on it. Some sort of noise? I listen intently. Thinking about something I have to do? I think it through in crazy detail. My brain gets bored and shuts off (usually). nod
