Dave Chappelle's Block Party Did anybody else see it? Did anybody else pcik up a kinda beefin vibe between Jill and Erykah? I side with Badu. Jill need an asswhoopin for singin over everybody. You had your shine, woman, fall back!
Ps. Dave did a very flattering rant about my cousin Thelonius that made me very proud in the theater.

I went to see it last night and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I did catch the smoldering rivalry between Jill and Erykah...Jill Scott seems to have a super ego...lol. The film was outstanding, such a warm feeling when I left the theatre. I swear I haven't felt that inspired and proud of my people in a very long while. Dave and the various artists captured the essence of humanity and the beauty of the rich culture found in NYC!!! The music was unbelievable and Dave was hilariously contemplative. They need to release an audio cd of the concert because it was ridiculously good! [Edited 3/6/06 9:50am]

It was a great concert film. Not only were the performances great, but Dave was funny as hell!!! Yeah i noticed the Jill/Erykah showdown also. I thought it was kind of funny, but at the same time it was sought of liberating to see two singers, who are great singers, try to outsing each other...
it got me thinking what it could have been like if Aretha Franklin and Patti LaBelle were trying to outsing each other but anyway, i loved Mos Def, Common and Talib Kweli I mean all the acts were good, I even dug Dead Prez, this is the kind of concert that I would love to pay good money to attend. Real music from my generation... I even loved Cody Chesnutt, he has a beautiful voice, like no other... Not to mention them sunglasses Jill had on were tight as hell. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

For real. I was like, chill homegirl. You don't know what E got under that wig. Could be more than hair. I totally knew what his last line was gonna be in that blues song so I screamed "And I ain't got shit to do!!" and I was right. My date was impressed.

But I feel like they probably cut a buncha performances for time. Dave and Bob probably had to make some tough choices. It was an all day thing.

with the erykah badu/jill scott situation, i don't think one is better than the other, they are just different, both are talented and both has great singing voices....
as for the movie, i hope and i hope and i hope that when this comes out on DVD that they will have the whole concert in its entirety, at least a soundtrack of the whole thing. this is something you MUST buy!!! I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Yeah. this might be one of those "Reality TV" editing things, but it still seemed like Jill had a huge head. Jill: We both have our unique styles. What I do couldn't compare to what she does and what she does could never compare to what I do... Michel: Are you nervous about performing after her? Jill (laughs): Have you ever seen me perform?
