exchanging money--put in the hand or put in on the counter

okay here's that age-old question--when you make a purchase, do you put the money in the cashier's hand or place it on the counter for them to pick up? all the cashiers that i know think it is rude as hell to place money on the counter, and then usually the person will have their hand up to receive their change, as opposed to having it put back on the counter.
so--why do people put money on the counter if they expect change back in their hand, and why do they get salty when you give them their change back the same way they gave it in the first place? confused
you look better on your facebook page than you do in person hmph!

When I worked in retail, I kind of expected it to be in my hand, and I'd return it the same way.

i hated it when i was a cashier and customers would put the money on the table-even after i had my hand out. they expected me to put it in their hands! pfft! you think i did? i know in some cultures (don't ask me which ones i don't know) it is considered polite to put money on the table instead of the hand.

Yeah, it's like, "Excuse me, but why do you think I'm holding my hand out? To grope you???" lol

Yeah..I tend to think that puttin' it on the counter is a lil' assy...it's especially crappy when people pull money out of their pocket in a wad and give it to a cashier in the same manner....I'm sooo glad I dont work in public service, I wouldn't keep a job 5 minutes...

I do hands... but I do hate it when they DROP the $ in my hand, as if they'll catch something should our skins touch neutral That's annoying, the money is dirtier than my hand any day...

I fucking hate that shit. But you know what? I work in backwards ass cuntry West York. I might as well work in Oklahoma or some shit. The customers know i'm gay so the do all kinds of shit. When they do put the money in my hand, they do it in a way like they don't want to touch my hand or something. Let me tell you something. I have the cleanest hands on the east coast. These muthafuckas come in the store at 4 in the morning and shit with dirt and shit all under their nails hands just fucked the hell up, then they act like they don't want to touch my hands. And I HATE it when they have all this change and just put the shit on the belt. One time I had my belt running and this dumb bitch still put it on the belt anyway and it all fell under the register and she gon' look at me like I'M stupid rolleyes That shit is so fucking rude. Or they'll ball the receipt up and just leave it on my register. Which is no different from littering. I mean, if you didn't want it, just tell me and I will gladly throw it in the trash for you. Let me calm down.
