Since it became 2.0, I think my signup date as TRON was 2-22-2002.
But I was part of the black and purple days as early as '98 I think.

But back then there were many Prince websites, so many choices. I hang out at Hammer's site and AMP a bit more than the org, among other Prince sites that I can't remembered their names. The choices became very limited after Prince's bullied lawyers intervened. Now Prince.org and HQ are the most active sites, and AMP is practically dead now. Never been to Hammer's site, although I have positive things about it. The people on AMP I've heard negative things about, so I don't dare venture there. You are right! People on AMP were something else. There were a lot of childish folks on there who didn't know how to conduct a proper discussion. I don't think there were any mods or anything like that, so basically people can say whatever thats on their mind. The things they said on AMP they wouldnt otherwise got away with most forums online not even on the org. I didn't participate too much, but I did love seeing the action as I sneaked to go onto AMP while using my library computer at school. Yesterday, I went back to AMP and looked up some old post just to bring back memories:-D

I remember using telnet to connect to my email account on a large Unix server so I could read the PML/PPML (and respond to it) with the text-only email client Pine. Cut-and-past with a mouse? Hah! I had to make do with keyboard commands. Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position. |

And since prince.org is the successor to the PPML... well, I subscribed the PPML in November 1995 within hours of Kevin's announcement about the PPML launch. In short, I've been here a long time.

Most Usenet newsgroups are unmoderated. While moderated newsgroups do exist, they require a fair amount of work to maintain, as a moderator must approve every single post. Personally, I'm glad that AMP exists as an unmoderated forum... if users don't like our policies, they can visit AMP and do whatever they please (within the bounds of the law and whatever their ISP will tolerate, anyway).
