Help with poster frame (Puh-leeeeze!)

Hello. I was put in charge of finding art for the restrooms at the place of my employment. My boss fell in love with one print I chose and I now need to frame it. I was told to just buy a cheap poster frame at Michael's or Jo-Anne's for under $30. With the 40% off coupons they feature in their ads, I figured this wouldn't be a problem; HOWEVER - the print is the unbelievably annoying size of 24 x 32 (NOT the standard 24 x 36). Has ANYONE seen a cheap, black poster frame in this size? I can't really order one on-line or custom-order one as I've been put on such a tight budget.

If worst comes to worst, I'll simply buy the print back from my employer and start from scratch.

Thanks in advance for any and all advice!

So he has the nerve to force you to decorate the restrooms and puts you on a tight budget? That's one of the lowest things I've heard lately. lol

Just paste them up with some duct-tape and then go tell him how much money you've saved. A low-class guy like that deserves low-class framing. wink

How about going with the 24x36 anyway and using a black poster sheet behind the centered print?

It's not his fault. The budget came from the building's owner. He's simply trying to do his job and didn't know jack about art so he asked me (kindly, I might add) to help.

But I love your reply! wink

I'm an idiot - do you mean simply purchasing a 24 x 36 matte board, or piece of poster board? I like this idea...

Depends on the frame and how nice it is, but either would be an option. smile

Pat Catans and Michaels sell sectional frame parts in all sorts of sizes, so you can put together a 24 x 32 frame. They're usually a little bit more expensive than the readymade frames, but much cheaper than custom framing.

You will still need the plexi and the foam board for a backing. Check the frame shop at Pat Catans or Micheals, and see what their pricing is for both. They can usually cut them down to size for you though they may charge you like a buck or two per cut.

Look in your phone book for a local plastics manufacturer, and you may be able to get the plexi glass cheaper than what you would pay for it at a frame shop.

I had that problem with a poster I was framing as well....I took the ghetto route....leave the piece of paper that was already framed in it (the edges were black so it looked like a mat)....flipped the already framed piece of paper over and it was white....nobody has been the wiser
