Crash!!! Best Picture..... wow.... Roger Ebert called that one... it was a surprise, though - but it was nice to have the awards sort of evenly distributed intstead of a sweep, IMO. VOTE....EARLY

I don't think we took any. Darin looked very handsome, though, in a suit and tie I picked out for him a while ago. And I was told I looked gorgeous by my friend's mother. So there you have it. lol. |

You did look good. And you said that you had nothing to wear. I looked awesome. I'm never afraid to toot my own horn. Thanks for putting that outfit together Carrie. I need to find more reasons to where it. "mrgreen: I took a few pics, but it'll prolly take me a while to finish up the roll of film. Who y'all REALLY need to see a pic of is Andy (my roomie). He was SOOOOO GAY last night. So gay that the Star and Tribune made mention of him today!

here's the event write-up from the MPLS paper. The part about my roomie is bolded.
A hooray for Hollywood at Minneapolis' big bash Minnesota AIDS Project benefit celebrated gay themes in films. Neal Justin, Star Tribune Last update: March 06, 2006 – 6:19 AM Sunday night's Academy Awards was a celebration of movies, but for those attending "Oscar Night on Ice" at Minneapolis' State Theatre -- the biggest Oscar party outside of California -- it was also a celebration of something else. For many of the 1,000 or so people on hand to support the Minnesota AIDS Project, it was a night to toast diversity of sexual orientation with "Brokeback Mountain,"Capote" and "Transamerica" all up for major awards. Some wore cowboy outfits, with feminine touches that would have made John Wayne blanch, in tribute to "Brokeback," the tale of two cowboys at home on the range -- and in each other's arms. While "Brokeback" lost the biggest award of the night to "Crash," most seemed thrilled that "Mountain" was even invited to the party. "I think a lot of gay and lesbian people thought it was a better, more important film, but in the big picture, there were other films dealing with extraordinary issues as well," said Ronald Kemmet, a retired telecommunications worker who has helped raise funds for the Minnesota AIDS Project, just moments after "Crash" was announced as the best-picture winner on the giant screen in the packed theater. Before the broadcast, Andy Birkey, 28, a local blogger who sported cowboy garb, along with a pink bandana, pink pants, a lamb sticking out of his pocket and a little hat that would have looked right at home on Curious George, called it "the greatest Oscar party ever." Iain St. James, a 37-year-old horticulturist, spent two weeks designing his idea of Western outwear, which included brown spangles and "Brokeback Mountain" spelled out in decorative beads on the back of his denim jacket. "It shows that there's a better acceptance of people," he said. "I hope this has some sway in the political world." He had another reason to root for "Mountain." "It would mean my jacket would be even more valuable," he said. While James' jacket may now be worth less on eBay, there were plenty of other moments to celebrate. Attendees cheered the best-actor award for Philip Seymour Hoffman in his role as gay icon Truman Capote and were equally thrilled when Ang Lee took the best-director award for "Brokeback." There was also wild applause for a comedy montage on how old Westerns had gay overtones, as well as for Dolly Parton's performance of the theme from "Transamerica" and a clip of Faye Dunaway doing Joan Crawford. If some were upset by the "Brokeback Mountain" loss, they were probably too high on sugar to visibly show it. Attendees dined on baklava, muffins, cheesecake and enough goodies to fill Willie Wonka's chocolate factory. Danny Sutter, a local bartender, seemed just fine with the results. "I was disappointed that 'Brokeback' didn't win, but I loved 'Crash,' " he said. "The fact that there was a surprise at the end made the night that much better." http://www.startribune.co...87006.html

Yup, and that description can't even BEGIN to capture what he looked like. Yesterday when I was getting ready I suddenly heard Denny yell "DARIN, you need to get down here RIGHT NOW." Then I just heard him saying over and over "that's the gayest thing I've EVER seen." He was right. But Andy totally pulled it off.

Okay, every year one of my old youth group, who is now in law school and I watch the Oscars. It is very serious business, we could only call each other on commercials. Since I am in the same town again, we watch together. On my way over to the festivities, my car died. I had to call the gathering, where two of them raced to where I was, fifteen minutes or so away. We had to call my mom to get a jump start, which did not work, then push the car to the auto mechanic.....eta of Oscar 30 minutes. THEN, they dropped me off at moms, where I got different car, and they went on to the partay. I had 16 minutes left, which I drove, very carefully past three deer, and one idiot that wanted to drag race....whatever..... and made it to the party at exactly 6:58.5 seconds. ran into the house and was seated in time for the opening!
that was the most exciting part of the Oscars..

WTF was that? Maybe I just wasn't in an indie mood but that movie drove me crazy. I just waited for ANYTHING to happen. Good thing that chick who's nominated was at least entertaining or I'd have shut it off half way through. Anywho, Cborgman, where are you? I'm curious if you got to Munich! i accidentally spilled water on my cable modem, which has left me without internet until thursday unless i trek over to my friends place next door. didn't get to munich, was too freaked out by the lack of internet, but did syriana before the big show, which i loved. i was rabidly pissed off when crash won sunday ngiht Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely. - Lord Acton
