I um... obtained a copy of this two weeks ago. I loved it. I really did. It's funny and good-hearted but also has a deep message about identity - not just gender identity - and how it's important for people to lay their cards on the table so that others aren't confused or misled. I had a smile on my face for about 95% of the movie. Kevin Zegers gets naked quite a lot too, if you like that sort of thing. "I just got read by an 8 year old..." - That was my favorite scene in the whole movie, I rewinded it like 10 times, LOL.

Hey!--
*Crash not only for Best Picture but also for Best Original Screenplay. I totally agree with this. I'm a huge Paul Haggis fan. People were condemning the overtness and the "coincidences" in Crash ...but Paul knows how to juxtapose scenes, circumstance, imagery, and dialogue to pull reflection and reaction out of viewers. That's take some delicate skill. I personally love the movie and have seen it 20 times (I have DVD)-- and it still moves me. * Go Reese! She is very charismatic and pulls you into all her characters. * I'm glad Terrance Howard didn't win. He is not a nuanced actor. He is popular ..and good for him. But he's no Cheadle. Get that straight. * I'm also glad Matt Dillon didn't win. He was unremarkable in Crash to me. Cheadle and Ryan Phillipe were better than Dillon. * I love Clooney but thought Jake should have won. * Boring show until the end. * Jon -- don't come back.

I liked Jon too. One of the better jobs done in recent years. I was quite happy with how this year's Oscars went actually.

I've been a huge ginormous Reese fan ever since Freeway, and was happy to see her honored. She gives good speech too.

Jon Stewart is great on The Daily Show, and his jokes were fun, but he was too nervous the whole time, it started to become distracting.
This was an insane year to be competing for an Oscar. There were no real frontrunners, since almost all the movies nominated were incredible in their own right.

ya know..i hate that the white straight male viewers crap on whoopie when she hosts....i think her 'tude is a perfect mix for oscar's pomp... but jon did do a great job tonight..i just wish the academy would nix the darn montages....or at least do them in an interesting way... i liked kasi lemmon's documentary a few years back for sydney p. having younger artists/actors acknowledge why these old films are important helps teach the younger generation their importance.. but just slapping clips together doesnt do sh*t but provide folks the chance to grap a snack. Space for sale...

I know, I know I fucking hated that song, I really don't get the hoopla over it. I fast forwarded through all the musical performances... Just tell me WHY they felt the need to curse Come on now, get some couth up in hea Can't wait for the backlash on this one, more shit to divide everybody - those who feel it's deserved & those who don't, folks who feel like Black shit is taking over, Blacks who are embarrassed by it, Blacks who embrace it just b/c it's Black... LAWD Jon was great btw, the opening skit & the gay cowboy montage were hilarious

I was absolutely thrilled for Clooney and I loved Syriana. Other than one catergory, I pretty much predited all the big prizes down to Crash getting best pic. I think everyone should see that movie.

I was pulling for Clooney too. Him and Reese. VERY happy. Seymour Hofman too. They did a good job in shuffling the statues around so all could win. Next time I want all the winners in ONE movie.

just saw this on imdb.com... Brokeback Mountain actress Michelle Williams has been disowned by her former school because of her role in the controversial gay cowboy romance. Williams, who attended exclusive Santa Fe Christian School in San Diego, California, has been blasted by the school's headmaster as "offensive" for acting the long-suffering wife of a homosexual ranch hand, played by Heath Ledger. Jim Hopson has branded the Oscar nominee a poor role model, and hopes his education establishment won't be linked to the film's themes. He tells the San Diego Union Tribune, "We don't want to have anything to do with her in relation to that movie. Michelle doesn't represent the values of this institution. Brokeback Mountain basically promotes a lifestyle we don't promote." oh that's just ridiculous. So They Were Proud of Her Work on Dawson's Creek?!! I'm glad "Crash" won. I loved being surprised on Oscar night.
Is it just me or did Jon Stewart make a rather mediocre host? His opening monologue was great, but nearly every joke he did after that bombed. All in all, this was one of the duller Oscar ceremonies I've seen. For me, the highlight of the evening was seeing Robert Altman finally getting some kind of recognition. His acceptance speech was brilliant...and Lily and Meryl's introduction of him was fucking hysterical.

At the event I was at, people responded quite well to Stewart. I liked him, I think. I'm reserving judgement till I watch the show again today since I missed huge pieces of it last night. ... Mpls holds the oldest 'officially sanctioned by the academy' Oscar party in the states outside of Hollywood. We get all dressed up and watch them on a huge screen at the State Theatre in Mpls. It's a charity event for Minnesota AIDS Project (where Darin works). And its a blast! |

The Oscars were WONDERFUL!!! Best one in a LONG TIME.
Ben Stiller...hilarious Steve Carrell and Will Ferrel...hilarious And the speeches!!! They were great! As much as I hated this year that they had the orchestra playing the entire time the winners were speaking, I do love that they keep the length of the speeched short (although if more than one person wins they should give them a little more time.) I thought John Stewart did a great job, but it did feel like those in the audience either loved him or hated him so overall it didn't seem like they warmed up to him. I loved Kiera Knightly and Jessica Alba's dresses. They were For me, it was the best Oscar show in a long time. Funny and surprising! I'm firmly planted in denial
