Brokeback Mountain actress Michelle Williams has been disowned by her former school because of her role in the controversial gay cowboy romance. Williams, who attended exclusive Santa Fe Christian School in San Diego, California, has been blasted by the school's headmaster as "offensive" for acting the long-suffering wife of a homosexual ranch hand, played by Heath Ledger. Jim Hopson has branded the Oscar nominee a poor role model, and hopes his education establishment won't be linked to the film's themes. He tells the San Diego Union Tribune, "We don't want to have anything to do with her in relation to that movie. Michelle doesn't represent the values of this institution. Brokeback Mountain basically promotes a lifestyle we don't promote."

What a tool! Seriously..."We don't want to be linked to this movie, so we'll ban the star who attended school here. Which no-one would have known anything about if we hadn't drawn attention to it."

Let's all write them letters praising them for educating such an open-minded human being!!!

whaaa?!?

you've gotta see, if for nothing else when something stupid happens. my all time favorite stupid moment was debbie allen's tap dance tribute to the score of saving private ryan.

she had a bunch of people in WWII costumes tap dancing to score music in front of millions of people, and amazingly no one along the way thought to ask her if she had lost her damn mind.

I didn't add this part of my reply because I am not yet use to the threads having "pages" and thought my post didn't appear doh!

But I LOOOOOVE the Oscars!!! I love the red carpet, watching the reactions and watching the acceptance speeches.

I keep saying I'm going to see the movies nominated but usually don't.

And I keep saying that I'm going to start having "Oscar Parties" and such but haven't as of yet. I think I'm the only one I know that digs the Oscars.

I can't wait to see them tomorrow! yay! woot!

i love the acceptance speeches, and i love when my predictions are right, and i love when my personal picks win, but lord there is nothing i love more than seeing something stupid happen live before our eyes...

and debbie allen is often at the heart of those stupid moments with her incredibly bad choreography.

the year under the sea from the little mermaid was up for best song, she choreographed the performance and had people in full scuba suits tap-dancing with those big flippers on.

she also was behind the year that they opened the show with rob lowe singing dancing and joking with snow white, which was appalling beyond all reason.

it's kind of sad they no longer let her near the oscars anymore, because as hideous as they were, the debbie allen dance numbers were so awful they were endearing, like seeing a 5 minute clip of the worst moments of "showgirls" in the middle of watching citizen kane.

and i, for one, would have been screaming with laughter when the 5 pairs of men in cowboy outfits with chaps had tap-danced to the score from brokeback mountain had they not banished debbie.

Alrighty then, I just got back from Transamerica.

I really enjoyed it. Yes it was definately lighter than the majority of the Oscar pics, but I needed that at this point. Felicity Huffman was excellent in her role. I also enjoyed the actress who played her sister, but unfortunately was only in a tiny portion of the movie. While it was a bit "Lifetime Movie" at points, the writers could've made it MUCH more so, I appreciate their restraint.

I'm happy Felicity got the Globe for this role. But, I've got to say I'm rooting for Reese for actress. I didn't see Pride and Prejudice or North Country, so I can't judge from those. Judi Dench was divine in Mrs Holloway, and I adored that movie, but again, we've seen it before. I just feel that Reese was perfection in Walk The Line. Everything Chris said about discovering the real actress potential in this role, I agree with. She really was the emotional center of this movie and my attention went to her each and every time she was on screen. I saw Walk The Line months after it was released and was afraid that the buzz would temper my reaction to Reese's role, but it didn't at all. For a change, I thought every bit of buzz was justified.

If Reese doesn't get it, I will be happy with Felicity. But I will be shocked, I think tomorrow will be Reese's night.

I um... obtained a copy of this two weeks ago. I loved it. I really did. It's funny and good-hearted but also has a deep message about identity - not just gender identity - and how it's important for people to lay their cards on the table so that others aren't confused or misled.

I had a smile on my face for about 95% of the movie. Kevin Zegers gets naked quite a lot too, if you like that sort of thing. smile

fyi- I loved nekkid Kevin Zegers. The best was the first time, in the hotel room with him all sprwaled on the bed. That being said, was the horrific hair dye job at the end REALLY necessary?

one last Transamerica thought-

Did they HAVE to name Felicity's character "Bree/Bri"? With her fame today due to Desperate Housewives, did they have to name the character the same name as a character from that show? Not to mention, a character who's over the top femininity is center to her character? It seriously distracted me periodically through the movie. Silly I know, but I couldn't help it.

I think she agreed to the role before she got the Desperate Housewives job.

I haven't seen all the Oscar nominees but as a piece of entertainment, I enjoyed it more than Crash, Mrs Henderson or Brokeback Mountain. It stayed in my mind a lot longer. There was something very 1970s/Schlesinger about it. Maybe it was just the road trip/buddy movie vibe. If this film had been made in the 70s, Teri Garr would have starred in it. It's that sort of movie.

Oh yeah, good comparison.

It was a very nice movie. A definate antidote to the majority of other Oscar pics which are SOOOOO heavy.

what cracks me up about transamerica is between this, priscilla, and to wong foo, we are now living in an era in which the drag queen/transsexual road trip movie has become a genre.

OKay we just watched Junebug.

WTF was that?

Maybe I just wasn't in an indie mood but that movie drove me crazy. I just waited for ANYTHING to happen. Good thing that chick who's nominated was at least entertaining or I'd have shut it off half way through.

Anywho, Cborgman, where are you?

I'm curious if you got to Munich!

What an asshole. If you don't agree with it, don't fuk any men and don't go see the movie.

Also Why does he judge MICHELLE on a character she plays as opposed to her acting and artistic abilities.

She is an actress in a role.

I mean people play gangsters and murderers and it doesn't mean they necessarily identify with them.

ANYWAY ...can't wait for the Oscars. I'm a huge cinema fan. Let's hope Jon Stewart is funnier than Chris Rock.

I do remember one joke from Rock ...when he talked about how the stereotypical black movies are the same movie in different locations, like Barbershop: "You just know the next one is goin' to be Laundromat ...and after that-- Check Cashin' Place."

That still makes me laugh. neutral

I can't even believe the pimp song was nominated. I saw Hustle & Flow b/c I had heard such great things about Terrance Howard's performance. That movie sucked! I couldn't believe how bad it was. I guess TH was okay, but my friend and I were like disbelief what the fuck--we want our money back.

Jon Stewart is funny though--Martin Scorsesce 0 Oscars 3-6 Mafia 1 Oscar. lol

"Whatever." rolleyes They've got the right to a stance.

But this particular sentence seems odd to me. The guys cheated, but can that be called their "lifestyle?" They were married -- to women -- and remained so throughout the film, as I understand it. This despite their urges and misery. I'd think the school would be applauding this. confuse
