Crash was pretentious arthouse drivel.

The characters in it were more like paper thin caricatures than real people, the plot was ridiculously far-fetched for the sake of juxtaposing, and the movie shoves its racism and prejudice theme so far down your throat, it's ridiculous.

The characters are SUPPOSED to be shallow, in order to highlight the various sterotypes which they either espouse or propagate. May I remind you that not many people respond well to a 6-hour-long movie?

FURTHERMORE - no one has to shove prejudice down my throat...I've lived with it all my life.

They acted unrealistically in a movie that wants to be taken seriously as high drama. That's a problem.

Were they also supposed to conveniently all cross paths at the perfect times in a giant city?

Your personal bias towards it based on your past experiences has nothing to do with the actual quality of the movie. It DID shove the theme it was conveying down the viewer's throat, to the point of overkill.

I saw Crash last night. I liked it on the strength that it kept me pinned to my seat and very effectively took me on an emotional rollercoaster. But I have to admit that I also thought it was way flawed.

It was contrived, preachy and suffered too many theatric fallacies to drive home it's point. I think it was superbly acted and directed, but the screenplay didn't at all deserve the praise... or the Oscar.
