attention RENTheads...

alright, i will confess i was dissappointed by the movie, like many people, but i could not resist buying the dvd yesterday, which came out on tuesday.

the movie is still a bit dissappointing, but the extras ROCK! deleted songs including "halloween" and "goodbye love" which should have been left in, and an alternate ending that is much better.

but best of all, there is a 2 hour documentary on johnathan larson and the creation of the show from ealry concepts through the movie that is just stunning, and even better than the movie. try watching it and not crying. the accounts of opening night (which was the day after johnathan died) from the cast, crew, and his family is simply breathtaking.

The Goodbye love deleated scene was amazing! all those scenes should have been left in the movie and they should have used that other ending. i almost cried when Angle came out on the stage in the altrnate ending.

I just recently saw the play when it came here and was disappointed too, it was not quite what I was expecting.

But the part about Jonathon Larson would definitely be worth seeing. It was so sad that he died right before his play hit Broadway. He wasn't that old either. I remember sitting in my seat at the play reading the program about how Larson had died and thinking, "Damn, it's ashame that he wasn't alive to see his creation see the light of day." sad

Although I was disappointed in the play, "Seasons of Love" and "Will I" are still two songs that I can't stop listening to. giggle

the experience of the play really rests solely on the cast. i have seen it two times now, once on tour in houston, which was incredible! the cast was very centered and made it work beautifully (except mark who was kinda meh.)

the night the movie opened we saw it on broadway, and it was terrible. the cast was phoning it in, and very very bad as a whole (except the mark who was awesome)

the johnathan larson doc is well worth renting the movie for. it's superior to the movie in several ways.

they should have went with the deleted end... it is far better and makes the beginning make a lot more sense.

chrris columbus really was not a good choice of director for this

I keep delaying buying the DVD but probably will snatch it next week.

I have listened to the CD EVERYDAY since my brother bought it for me at Christmas.

I kid you not -- everyday. It's in my car and on my computer. I've had so many favorite songs on there.

First it was Seasons of Love, then Light the Candle, then OUT TONIGHT (hot! hot! hot!), then You'll See (of all songs lol), then Take Me or Leave Me, then La Vie Boheme..

I relate most to Mimi and right now am really into Another Day. (I love the clash between she and roger's personalities).

"Take your powder! Take you candle! Take your brown eyes, your pretty smile, your silhoette!" sad no day but today. "Another time another place, another round, a warm embrace." sad NO DAY BUT TODAY.

the doc also has an a heartwrenching story about the origins of "will i lose my dignity?" and the real life person that uttered it in the real life group upon which the support group within the play is based, and about his friends that he was taking to the group.

the music is extremely catchy.

did he give you the broadway cast album or the movie soundtrack?

i always found myself relating to angel, although i want to point out i am not a drag queen. we are both people who remain upbeat and fun despite lots of hardship.

but i always wanted to play the role of collins. "cover you (reprise)" gets me every freaking time.

Kewl. thumbs up! biggrin

He got me the movie soundtrack. On Amazon, people were acting like that was better. I've never seen it on Broadway ...so I don't know if this CD version is the preferred.

the movie recording is EXCELLENT and in most ways superior to the broadway cast album, HOWEVER there are several songs that did not make the jump t film that are among the best of the play, and part of the reason the movie is dissapointing. including a LOT of stuff that enriches the story.

ya gots to have both.

orgnote me your address and i will send you a copy of the cast album.

welcome.

if you are feeling the movie as much as it sounds like you are, the cast album with ALL of the songs omitted from the movie and filled gaps in the story is gonna rock your world.
