What would you choose?

If given a choice of being blind or deaf, which would you choose?

To set my thread apart from questions threads of past(Ocean) I'll answer first.

Although I think it would be easier to live an independent life being deaf(drive a car, read a lease agreement) I'd still choose to be blind. I couldn't imagine a world without music or never hearing someone tell me they love me.

So which would you choose and Y?

At my work we are only allowed to listen to headphones with one earphone so I continaully switch sides so I don't end up deaf in one ear.

A month ago, I had a cold that for some reason caused one ear to go deaf. Sound was completely blocked and it felt really weird. I sat up one night and began to panic because I could feel the other ear going out. There was nothing I could do about it at 3am. I got so frustrated that I started to cry. I wanted to feel normal.

I used to ask myself what color I would miss if I went blind. Whose face? How would I feel not knowing what my son looked like at 10 years old or 20?
That's when I finally got some glasses and began to pay attention to everything around me so that I would not take it for granted. I'm sure I forget but, I keep it somewhere in the back of my mind.

I really did intend to answer redface. I guess I will just focus on being glad that I don't really have to make that choice.

I have had vision problems with one of my eyes since I was born 34 years ago and I would have to say I'd rather be deaf. There are improvements in technology that can help a deaf person to live a good life, but a life without vision would not be living. Imagine not seeing your loved one's and all the beauty of this world that God has created. I can't imagine that! wink .

Wow this thread topic really bummed me out. sigh I've asked myself this question before.

I'd rather be deaf Even though I love music and listening to my loved ones. Im an artist, visuals are very important to me. I'd be depressed if I wouldnt be able to draw or paint or see things.

Art before Music sad

My uncle can't talk and I've imagined myself in his shoes. I think I would be fine not talking. Im quiet anyway.

yeah another vote for deaf here
i think you could still feel music to some extent through vibrations...

but will also echo purpleizpassion in that we can celebrate that it is a choice we don't have to make.

I would rather be deaf. if you were blind then you would not be able to tell the babes from the ugos. You could wind up with a dog instead of a beauty. But if you were deaf you would not have to put up with any nagging or boring conversations.

If I had to choose one or the other I would choose to be blind. I could live without seeing but I love music far too much to never hear it again.

I helped both a blind boy and a deaf boy with their studies at university. After working with them for one year, I would rather be blind than deaf. The blind boy's social skills were so much better. The deaf boy just didn't fit in society.

However, this opinion is based upon a very reduced observation. So maybe I really don't know...

that' part of the reason i would choose deaf. i like the isolation of not having to communicate with a broad part of the population. sign language limits you to a a small and exclusive group. for some, it would be harrowing, for me it would be an easy trasition.

i'd rather be deaf...it would mean the sacrifice of music, but u can remember the good music, seeing as, music today isn't worth remembering...

This is a macabre topic but one I have pondered before.

As much as I love music, and SOUND, if forced to choose I would definitely choose being deaf over being blind. I wouldn't feel so out of control as I would were I deaf.

The loss of sight is a horrifying concept to me. Once, at an eye exam, they did a test where a very, very bright flash of light was used to photograph the vessels in the back of my eye and, due to an eye condition I had at the time, it took longer than usual for my eye to readjust back to normal after that bright flash. Those few minutes where my eye was totally blinded -- I mean, as in everything was BLACK. I could see nothing out of it -- was sooo frightening, and loss of control of a sense almost made me panic. And that was only one eye. I cannot imagine what it must be like to function in a world of absolute, undending darkness.

when i was a kid, my father hit me in my left eye with a very tightly packed snowball, and it wounded my eye a bit, and i had to wear patches over both eyes for 3 weeks while it healed.

it was hell on earth.

i couldn't read, which was the one thing i ever wanted to do as a kid. i couldn't watch tv, all i could do was sit there and wait in a hospital room for three weeks.

the crap part is they predicted at the time my vision would probably deteriorate some as an adult, and the other day i notice my long distance sight is getting a bit hazy. i am probably goign to have to start wearing glasses in the next few years.

sigh

Hell yeah! I wander my ass up to the stage I mean who's going to keep a blind guy from getting that close. Uh nevermind, I'm sure there are a few folks out there that would trip me or something if I got too close.
