Did You Ever Have to Write a "Self-Evaluation" for Your Job? Everyone working in my department had to do that today, and it was hard! We had to fill out a form, listing all of our job duties, and who are "customers" were, and what their expectations of us were. Since I'm an administrative assistant, I guess my "customers" would be my co-workers who I do work for.
We also had to give ourselves an overall assessment, list our career interests, our new goals and objectives, and our development plan that we would use to meet our goals and objectives. Whew, it was not easy to do, and everybody was bitching about it, but we had no choice. I'm curious to see how the actual reviews themselves go, when we sit down with the head of the department and have a discussion with him about what we wrote on our forms. RIP, mom. I had to do them at IBM, and we were told as a group what to put in as goals and our outcomes. I added additional content saying that I had no control over what other people did and how they screwed our department with stupid decisions, so don't base me on how poorly others did because it wasn't a reflection of my own hard work.
And then they laid everyone off. | |

Every frikin year. It's like what...don't you know what I do? And they don't. And it's just general BS anyhow.
I LOVE the 5 point rating system. Thing is you can't be a 1 or you shouldn't be there and a 3 means you are exceeding at your job. There can only be 1 "5" in your group. And then they say that they are leaning everyone toward a 3...to 3.5. Then what is the point of the assessment Also you are judged on your "goals" from the previous year and oft times you don't get them until the year is done. And you are judged on how well you did to "plan" which is very agressive. So your group can be profitable and yet be not doing that well. Christian Zombie Vampires | |

Uggh. I hate those things.
Where I work, I'm the most educated person in my department and the most favored by clients -- that includes my boss. And it's a bit of a personal threat to coworkers, I think. So to keep me "humble," I guess, my boss will illuminate every litle shortcoming I show in the course of a year. If I break a pencil, she immortalizes it! To offset that, I make myself sound like friggin' SUPERMAN in my self-evals! And I back it up with dates, specific accomplishments and even attributed quotes of praise from co-workers and clients. actually, I vaguely remember doing one once in a 10 month governmental job I had once. My superior talked me through it and we concluded that I hated it there and I changed jobs soon after (once I've finished that photoshop course first!) | |

I had to do one of those once and it seemed like such a sham. I mean, just tell me how you feel about my performance and then we can work on my weak spots. I don't think my boss really cared too much about how I felt my performance was so the whole thing didn't really make much sense. They build you up to beat you down. | |
