Dance Of The Vampires! ... by Roman Polanski, produced in 1967, is simply my favourite movie of all time.
I love it since I am 7 years old. A great gem, a cult favourite. A few weeks ago I bought the soundtrack, written by Krystof Komeda, a polnish jazz musician (a national hero in poland), that was tragically lost from the world two years later due to a car accident. Sharon Tate is so beautiful in the movie, it's unbelievable what happened to her also two years later. Any fans in here?

That's right - although the American version was heavily (and extremely stupidly) edited without Polanskis involment. I think he wanted his name put away from this vesion of the movie. The added stupid sounds (which should be funny), and cut out the gay vampire, Herbert. Producers are sometimes ... they destroyed a masterpiece. They thought the US audience could not deal that much with vampires. If you have some time / money, I really recommend to you the original version. Believe me, it has style. (I have a damn good taste, if I'm allowed to add that --> okay, this could be ironic, but in this case... NO! ). The american version (TFVK - or: Pardon Me, you teeth are in my neck), seemed to be plain horrible. (I saw a trailer, that was enough). [Edited 2/23/06 0:16am]

I can't really appreciate this movie, even though I've of course seen it a number of times. It's just not my cup of tea (or blood).
As a curiousity, I've met an illegitimate child of Roman Polanski's, her mother is/was Swedish. Her name is Lisa.

[Edited 2/23/06 0:16am] Polanski´s private life and his past are a bit disturbing to me but he´s still one of my favorite directors, simply love a lot of his films, like Bitter Moon and Dance of the Vampires/Fearless Vampire Killers...tehy made a musical of it over here. Simply can´t even imagine an edited version...does it even make sense....? I mean how did they keep the storyline intact ? What I find unbelievable is not only what happened to poor Sharon Tate but that he was still able to make the films he made later on ...was Rosemary´s Baby made bfore or after the murder of her ? Those Manson people were crazy butchers. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Those Manson people were crazy butchers. I think the edited version was just very shortened and had a kind of cartoon-introduction to explain the US audience what a vampire is (and to fill out 20 minutes that were lost from editing or so). I'm not sure if Herbert was taken out completely (although my previous post might have left the impression --> sorry), but at least the "gayness" had to be gone. Btw, when Shagal climbs through the window to bite the maid - she takes a cross and holds it against him. and he says something: "But that does not help with JEWISH vampires" (hehe, that's so damn funny, isn't it?). The german synchronization differs here, due to a possible anti-semitic attitude by such statements! (which is nonsense noch drei). Some time ago I read into the whole Tate/Manson case, just a little bit, cause I really could not stand it and said to myself: "No, thats enought, I do not want to know more". But what I did not find out why Polanski was their target? Any ideas? Rosemary's Baby was done with Sharon still alive, shortly (one year) after the Vampires.
