I'm looking for a digital camera. Any advice?

So I'm finally going to get a digital camera. I didn't want to abandon film, but my wife is insisting on it.

I found this on Overstock.com;

Fuji FinePix F700 6.2MP 3x optical zoom, 2x digital zoom 1.8" LCD, 16MB xD-Picture Card, Lithium-ion battery pack with charging Picture Cradle.

$219.99

Is that a good buy?

I don't know anything about digital cameras. HELP.

you won't use the digital zoom... it's all about the optical baby!headbang (more is always better)
you will have to buy another xD card - probably 256 or 512 (i have 128 and it wouldn't be enough for a shutterbug like me over a vacation...)

the digital soaks up power but mine uses regular batteries so i don't know anything about the lithium.
i bought rechargable ones but if i forget to put fresh ones in then i can always buy duracells smile

but yeah overall it sounds like a good price smile

Reincarnate

I'm very happy with my Sony Cybershot and my cousin has a similar model which she's happy with also.

I loved my Canon but I went through two in a very short time so I'm not sure how reliable they are.

Heiress

our canon digital rebel somehow survived the fire intact... tough ol thang. it takes marvelous pictures.

it's really heavy, though, so for travel i'm going to replace my IXUS (that's ELFE in America, i think) APS with a digital version of the same.

The 'cameras' drop down gives you pretty much all cameras by make and,if you have a fish around on there, theres even test done that show quality of pix etc under differnet conditions

Do NOT buy this camera!

It's not a genuine 6MP camera, but instead a 3.1 million effective pixel camera that uses some trickery to create 6MP pictures. The end result is a picture quality similar to a 4MP camera.

My friend bought this a couple of years and didn't realise. It's a decent enough camera but is not a 6MP one.

interesting!! sure enough it has 3.1 million effective pixels hmm
so how can they get away with calling it a 6MP camera??

i guess that makes sense why it is in the same price range as the 3-4 MP cameras

It is quite a remarkable camera in its own way, or rather it was when it came out, due to the technology. I don't know exactly how it works but I think it basically uses two sets of pixels that do slightly different jobs.
