I just watched Crash.(spoilers within) Absolutely amazing. A film has not had this effect on me for a long time. I would highly recommend this extraordinary work of art to all. I havent seen any of the other Best Picture Nominations but now (and dont get me wrong because i loved this movie) I can see why King Kong never made it into the category. [Edited 2/19/06 23:11pm] Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

i just love that scene | |

I enjoyed it, but I thought there were too many characters. Some of them were interesting and deserved more screen-time. Plus, I felt it was just shoving the whole "Racism is bad, folks" message down the audience's throat.

Excellent movie. I've seen it twice. I hope it wins Best Picture.

i just love that scene Oh Lawd!!! I don't just tear up. I sob uncontrollably. I watched it twice and it just kills me. Not just because of the obvious but also because their dad-daughter relationship is so beautiful and she's trying to protect him. and racism is bad...that's reality... Yeah, and? It's as obvious as those funny rappers that had to say "stay in school kids" to the camera in every interview/awards show. I'm still not convinced that Terrence Howard is anything other than average either.

To me, Terrence Howard looks at least ten years older than he really is, so some of the roles he gets don't seem to fit to me.
But Crash was good. | |

This is one movie I keep picking up and yet keep putting down when I am at the videostore picking out movies. News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so. You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

Don Cheadle is a phenomenal actor. I wouldn't compare them at all.

Don Cheadle is excellent in Crash.
For me the biggest let down (acting wise) in this movie is Brendan Fraser. Im not much of a fan of his, but to me he just wasnt convincing enough as his role as DA. I felt he was trying to hard to play his role powerfully and just wasnt carrying it off. i could picture Woody Harrelson or Guy Pearce carrying it off with much more conviction. i agree with your comment of Don Cheadle, but i think most of you don't even give Terrance Howard a chance. It's not like he just popped up on the scene, he's been acting for years.... suckers like L.L. Cool J. and Ja Rule, and DMX can get play as actors on this site, but Terrance Howard can't?? sometimes i really don't get this place... I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

a great cast...a great concept....ruined by a contrived script.
this film does not deserve all the hype..its too implausible. Space for sale...

That scene alone poses so many questions. You can study that scene and make a semester course out of it in college. Should her husband have done something? What would've happened to her husband if he had done something? Was he a coward? Was she asking too much? That scene wrecked me. * I agree Don Cheadle is in a league beyond Terrance Howard. I've loved him since he was able to hold a scene and pretty much steal it from George Clooney in Out of Sight. Don is so fucking multi-dimensional-- he can play thug or sophisticate. Terrance is undistiguished as a actor to me. I mean good that he's on a roll ...but in most of his movies, I think he could easily be replaced.
* However, I must say one of my favorite scenes in Crash is when TH's character comes face to face with his antithesis -- the type of person responsible for the racism he has to endure daily: the robber. He fights the robber instead of yielding his car, which is a very powerful stand for a formerly passive character. And then the confrontation with the cops -- I so feel that liberation. And I love how Ryan Phillipe handles this scene ...(because to be noble and just even when someone is being an ass is the most spectacular thing!) And then TH's bravado has shown this antithetical kid what real courage and bravery is. Then he has the nerve to give this kid a ride and then give him back the gun. Now, this could have been such a corny and cheesy encounter. You know, hollywood brother meeting lowlife ..ending with 'you embarass me, you embarass yourself' and actually influencing the kid. But that series of actions worked so brilliantly here (thanks to the writer and director of course.). Anyway that series hinges so much on Terrance and it's funny, breath taking, nerve-clinching, touching ...everything rolled into one. * Why does Matt Dillon keep getting nominated?? I would have nominated Ryan Phillipe. I didn't think Dillon was as nuanced as Phillipe. I didn't walk away from the film thinking damn Dillon is a good actor. I thought Cheadle and Phillippe were excellent. They can give a second's facial expression and make it SO layered and evocative. Dillon doesn't do this. I don't get his hype. And I don't think anyone's mentioned him specifically on this thread yet. Very telling. Why is he nominated?

Don't forget him as Jackie Jackson in The Jacksons: An American Dream mini-series. That was when I first saw him... and then in Glitter of ALL movies. He was particularly bad in that, and he fit right in - not like when you spot a great actor stuck in a crappy movie (e.g. Christopher Walken/Gigli). [Edited 2/20/06 5:23am]

LOVED this film - very powerful and great performances.
Personally, I'd like it to win Best Film at the Oscars. But I think Brokeback Mountain will get it...
