I agree. It's a friggin' sin to kill him off in the first few minutes. Regardless of whether you like the character or not (personally, Scott has always pissed me off) he is still an integral part of the Phoenix saga. Killing him is a stupid move.

Unfortunately, they are so hell--bent to get this flick into theaters before Superman Returns that they've rushed the whole thing. Yeah, it's gonna bring to mind Batman & Robin, no doubt.

Yeah, it's a shame really, cuz the way I heard it Bryan Singer had a pretty
good idea of where the storyline was headed, and had planned on doing the
Dark Phoenix story over two movies. With Jean returning in X3 with a few
'identity problems' and starting to display disturbingly extensive powers.
The film ending with her saving the X-Men from the 'enemy' by wiping them
out without mercy (therefore kinda turning to the darkside herself). In
X4 she would be the villain, that everyone ends up having to fight against,
climaxing with Cyclops getting throught to her and both of them dying.

Looks like that's all out of the window now, just cuz a certain studio exec
fell out with Singer and rushed to get X3 finished before he releases
Superman Returns, deliberately ignoring any ideas Singer had for the
franchise (and shoehorning some of his own dumb ideas into the mix in the
process). ...not that I'm bitter or anything!
