do any of you vegans have a good recipe for arthichoke? a roommate of mine once made it for me. i think she steamed it, and there was parmesan cheese and olive oil involved. it was DELICIOUS!

your breaking the rules if it involves cheese, that is if your a vegan!..vegans are stricter vegetarians..they dont eat milk or eggs..or use anything that was either tested on animals or remotely has anything to do with an animal.

VEGETARIAN here and believe it is one of the most important choices I've made in my life. It's difficult because I live in rural Michigan, on Lake Huron where hunting, fishing and farming are common and with absolutely NO vegetarian restaurants near. Fortunately there is a nice selection of veggie food in a new superstore about 25 miles from me and for road trip days a great Trader Joes about 2 hours away. Gangsta and I take coolers and load up! I'm working on the vegan part now but am really struggling with it.

i love your story and thank you for the spell-correction..
with me..vegetarianism was looked at as an act of lunacy! and needless to say to i was acepted, rather than a diet choice it felt like as if i was coming out of the closet..which i think that wont be for another 4 years..lol..but i digress...i only wish i could be with you guys in that road trip!..it sounds fun!

Correction was not intentional ~ I just love the color ~ if you are ever in Michigan send and orgnote to either of us (me or Gangsta) and we'll hit TJ's and go have a great veggie meal somewhere!

I consider myself 75% vegetarian. I mostly eat plant and animal substitutes instead of meat, but every once in a while I do eat chicken or seafood.

I never eat pork and avoid pork products when I can. I've got a few reasons for that. Pigs are among the more intelligent farm animals (a cow will eat until it's stomachs explode and lay in it's own shit, but a pig will do neither, for example) and for some reason, the more intelligent I think an animal is, the less willing I am to eat it's flesh. Make sense? I don't know. Second is the fact that swine are our closest genetic family next to apes and monkeys. It feels a bit close to cannibalism, to me. Third and probably the silliest reasons are Orwell's "Animal Farm" and the Beatles' "Piggies", both of which pop into my head whenever I have tried to eat pork. razz

would you eat rabbit then? they don't seem too smart confused

Yep. Rabbits are cute but dumb.

I'm a pseudo vegetarian! (yes, a fake, an imposter!) This is because I do still eat chicken, and more recently I have been having salmon once a week, the salmon is more for health reasons as I don't really like to have fish at all. The chicken on the other hand I have always enjoyed.

I haven't had any other form of meat (pork, beef, lamb etc) for almost 10 years now. Ideally, I'd like to not eat chicken, but I would find it quite difficult, the salmon I could give up easily.

After 10 years of not eating beef, lamb etc (never actually had pork before in my life, at least not knowingly!) I think I would find it hard to go back to eating it, I feel sick at the thought of it. It's not that I never liked the taste of meat, but it really is what you get used to, the longer you don't have it for, the more foreign it is for you to ever consider having it again. Eating beef/lamb again would feel like eating human flesh for some reason, unnatural... but I know, I eat chicken, I didn't say it made sense! Again, it is what one gets used to, if I didn't eat chicken for a long time, I think it would feel gross to eat that too.

It doesn't help that I don't particularly like most vegetables, kinda limits my options lol (although I am improving), thank goodness for fruit! orange

I try to stay in the +80% range of veggie but I usually only make it to about 60% - everything has chicken in it shrug

But I avoid pork like the plague & beef in general unless I'm in the mood for a steak, which isn't often at all...

I could never be vegan though...

that's cool - just do what you're comfortable with!

i hear the "i could never be vegan" thing a lot - it's really not difficult at all, with all the replacement foods available, i can make just about any recipe vegan - well, maybe not a turducken, but who would want to eat that anyway? lol

i see my posts didnt show ugh! what i was saying was that i eat meat but i love vegetables-raw veggies at that. my oldest son i think was born a vegetarianwhen i fix dinner he will eat meat but very little. he eats mostly veggies. sometimes he'll just skip the meat altogether and make himself a huge salad or a mix of veggies. nothing political with him, just doesn't like the taste, but he is a animal lover hmmm i don't know any veggie recipes i just buy alot of them.
