I don't have an IPOD. I've had this Sony Net MD Minidisc player/recorder for years and love it.

I replaced the headphones with these:

New touch-screen iPods on the way?

Think Secret can confirm recent rumblings that Apple is nearing completion of a completely revamped video iPod that will shed the ubiquitous mechanical click wheel for a touch screen and will sport a 3.5-inch diagonal display.

This video iPod, which has been in development and on the table since before Apple released the 5G iPod last year with video playback, will feature a display that will occupy the entire front face of the device. Sources who have seen the device report that it features a digital click wheel, one that overlays the touch-sensitive display and appears when a finger touches it and disappears when the finger is removed.

Apple has been working with at least two other companies to perfect the digital click wheel display technology. While not all the engineering was completed in-house by Apple, sources have said Apple could hold an exclusive license on the technologies it borrowed from other developers for a period of time, limiting the ability of competitors to copy Apple's design.

Additional details concerning the new iPod have yet to be confirmed, including capacity and a release date, although all indications point to the Spring, possibly as early as late March or early April. During the Macworld Expo in San Francisco, Apple CEO Steve Jobs alluded to a major announcement on or around April 1, Apple's 30th anniversary as a company.

Like previous iPods, sources insist that this video iPod will lack any sort of wireless connectivity, and will continue to connect to televisions using the conventional cabling solution of current models.

While Apple no longer publicly releases the numbers for how many specific iPod models it sells, Think Secret has learned exclusively that during Apple's most recent December quarter, the company moved 3.9 million 5G iPods, exceeding internal estimates and confirming that strong demand remains for higher capacity, higher priced iPod models, especially with additional functionality. By comparison, 8 million iPod nanos were sold during the same period.

Here are a few mock ups of what it could potentially look like.

I do not own an IPOD. Reasons why:

1) I don't have time to download music.
2) I barely have time to listen to music anymore.
3) I don't really know what an IPOD does exactly?

Am I hopelessly lost dinosaur? I was doing so good keeping up with music trends for so long but now that I'm almost 34, I just can't keep up anymore.

ditto, except I'm 35 redface

I have one lol Sorry guyz. I'm not a gadget freak but damn my mini ipod in pink is cute and i STILL have room for more music! biggrin It'z like a candy cane- i wanna bite it- as stupid as that soundz perhapz. I even bought a white leather case that has a light brown leather strap so i can carry it around my shoulder without holding it and it just lookz like another accessory i wear! biggrin They're great to take on my brisk walkz when i get a chance to have a damn brisk walk (i really don't have that many excuses atm but still) or when im on my stepper and don't necessarily feel like sharing my music with the neighbourz in the morning! Any mp3 will do just the same thing, some may argue are even better- dependz on what you find and what your needz are! But i'm a sucker for marketing and i like the design of it even though the colour nanos (which by the way are fantabz but i don't churn out money like a chocolate factory so i'm more than happy to stick to my mini!) are now the new and ever-so current generation of the ipod family.

Inspector Gadged Spelling Edit. Go go gadget typo! omfg

The iTunes software put me off buying an iPod. I don't know what it's like to run on a mac, but on a PC it's like trying to communicate with the dead. It sounds like my computer is having an asthma attack whilst it's running.

Aside from that, the fact that it has an internal rechargeable battery which has to be replaced by an authorised dealer when it finally dies, put me off too.

And the price... iPod's are way too over-priced.

I bought a no-name £35.00 player the other month and I love it. There's no faffy software. You just plug it in a USB port, drag the files across and unplug it. I also get about 10 hours playing time from one rechargeable AAA battery. The ear-phones which came with it were shite, so I just substituted some £5.00 Phillips ear-phones and it's perfect.

If I lose it or if it breaks, I'll just buy another.

Very true! I own a Creative Zen Touch, which, at the time, was a way better deal than an iPod. Apple products are expensive. Okay, they look good, but that's about it. They're certainly not worth the price.
They're so popular because they look like a gadget, and Apple has a great marketing campaign for them. Nothing ground-breaking about them, they even use Creative's patented user interface. Only the round wheel is something they thought of themselves...

I'll stick to my knowledge of the tech world, and buy a portable media player based on that, assuring me the best bang for the buck; instead of following the herd.

Don't get me wrong, an iPod is a good product. But it's way overpriced, and iTunes is something I'd rather not have to use.

When you have kids, you can't walk around with plugs in your ears 24/7.

Even for long plane trips, it seems like one more piece of junk to haul along... I'd rather have a book, and some peace & quiet. reading

Have had one for 3 years now.....yeah, it's vintage! The 15G one, without the click-wheel, which isn't available anymore..... I've decided to get me one of the new ones sometime this year, at least 30GB!

Oh, and since I have my Bose iPod Docking Soundsystem, it's really all I use!!!

thumbs up! for iPod!

I was just thinking about that. nod When I had my discman, I used to love that feeling of being 'in the zone'; I was always in my own little world. I never used to go anywhere without it; it was an obsession, almost. It's quite nice being part of society again. smile

I'd love an Ipod - and all that music - but I'd probably be in a trance 24/7. lol

That's the thing though (for me) - I only wear it when I work out... I've taken it to work a few times when I know it'll be slow enough for me to listen for a while, but that shit is sitting on my desk most of the time nod

I was PISSED when my battery died midway through my workout the other day lol I REALLY wanted to disconnect then mad

Yeah, I can have that too. I don't often listen to my Zen on the street, just when I'm on the train. It sometimes feels weird, disconnected like you said, when I'm in a busy street between a lot of people.

unfortunately, the sound quality is only slightly better than the earpieces that come with the ipod. i kind of expected this before buying them, but i was really buying them for comfort. the design of these things are genius, i barely notice i have them on, but those damn white earpiecs were some form of a torture device, i couldn't stand wearing them of over 30mins! i wanted to get a pair of shure noise canceling earphones but those things cost a little to much for me atm. the B&O's cost a nice piece of change too, luckily i was able to score a new pair on ebay.
