Computer HELP - PLEASE!!!

I am at the end of my tether, nearly..

It says I am low on disc space.. and my C drive is low on space and my scratch disc, whatever that is..

I have taken ALL my folders OFF my comp and have zipped and transferred them to my brothers comp. Deleted them from mine.

I have taken off NUMEROUS programmes, Adobe Photoshop, Acrobat, Adobe Reader, and lots more to free up some space.

So I am left with one folder I am working on. An Adobe Illustrator one, with my work on. The project I should have finished ages ago.
Takes 15 mins to save a design, or my comp crashes and I lose my work.

Today it says cannot save cos I have no disc space. What does this mean, when I have virtually cleared out my whole computer?

I have run anti spyware and nothing is detected.

I think if my computer dies, I am well out of a job! cry

I need some quick advise, please!!!! grouphug

I'm definitely not a techie but maybe you're low on program-running space, which is different from actual space for saved stuff on the computer.

What does that mean, and what can I do about it?

I have no clue, it's just something my dad has said to me in passing about our computer.

Dad says do a search of your computer for "msconfig". Uncheck any boxes. After you restart, choose to save your changes.

How much memory (not disk space) does your computer have? Maybe you should see about getting that upgraded.

"scratch disk" is space set aside by the computer to store data it is curently working on.

Cleaning your computer should become a regular event. You wouldn't wait until your house was a pit before cleaning it would you?

Illustator is a very large memory requirement program. It works on in a 3D space and that requires so much memory to contain. It still seems you could have made the object smaller.

You need to Take what you have saved, "the project", and all files and back them up. Then you need to back everything else up and reformat the computer. You need to do this now. A diskspace trouble can be because your hard drive is getting ready to crash.

and while you are at it upgrade the rest of the computer too.

step one shut down your computer.

step two go to a store and buy a new computer.

step 3 move old files to new computer.

Don't get a whole new computer when you can upgrade what's there and get by a lot cheaper. confused

Sounds very familar to what happened to my PC. I'd save all your work on a disc, then format your hard-drive and re-install windows. Most likely you have a computer virus, most likely the 'Backdoor' virus which effects system memory etc.

Formatting the hard-drive should remove the virus from the PC, however, it would be best to do a virus scan on the disc with your files on to check if they contain the virus so to avoid re-infecting the PC again.

Are you running Windows XP? If so, you can try disabling System Restore, then rebooting, that may free up some hard drive space.

They also sell flash drives that connect to your computer through the USB port, that go all the way up to about 5 gigabytes these days, depending on how much stuff you have, you may want to move some of it over to one of these.

Are you having to run the PC in safe mode then?, I had to format my PC and lost all the documents; music etc. on it, as you can't record data CDs in Safe Mode.

However, is there a way you could get one of those USB devices to save your work on?, I think some are quite reasonably priced now. Other than that, I'm not sure what to suggest. Like I said before, the best option would be to format the hard-drive and maybe try an alternative operating system to Windows if the problem still occurs.

Also maybe get a computer expert to look at, but ofcourse this would cost, and they would most likely suggest the same thing(s) we have here.
