MOVIES: "Something New" & "Take the Lead" Saw that movie "Something New" on Saturday, many things I liked about it & many things I disliked about it It falls into a lot of the obvious traps - she's WAY uptight, he's way loose, she gives him a hard time for the longest, he's right there like a puppy
There was a trailer for a new Antonio Banderas film called "Take the Lead" - a teacher guides his rambunctious reject students through the joys of ballroom dancing ![]()
Tired, TIRED formula... yet it's still ever so slightly appealing I hate to say One good thing about it - Yaya from Top Model is in it
I have no idea if she can act but surely she got in based on her skill as a dancer. I'm happy for her, I wanted her to get something out of that show since she didn't win
So has anyone checked out Something New? Thoughts? Will anyone check out Take the Lead? I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it

I also saw Something New. Could Simon Baker be ANY cuter?! But I'm a sucker for blond blue-eyed types, always have been. Thought the same about it. My favorite scene was the dialogue that they had in the supermarket - it was relevant and very well written. I also agree that the basic plotline of her being uptight with the straight hair as opposed to the free-spirit that comes out with landscape guy (curly hair) was way too predictable. And how about dismissing Blair Underwood? I wish she made him even more of a "catch" instead of painting him so materialistic towards the end, it would have made her jump back to the landscaper more compelling and the choice more poignant. I used to see Simon Baker on the lot all the time when he was doing his show here at Sony. He is fine as hell! As for the hip hop ballroom dance movie. That shit has got to be sheer comedy 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

yup i saw Something New last week. I thought while it wasn't the best movie i had seen this year so far, it wasn't too bad.
at first i was afraid that it was going to be another "Brown Sugar" mixed with "The Best Man" or "Love & Basketball", but it had some parts in there that I was glad they threw in. I would have walked out pissed if they would have just showed the goody goody parts of the relationship and then breaking up because he didn't show up on time for dinner or something.... but yeah that grocery store scene was great, only thing was, i felt that they could have made Blair Underwood's character more of like the type of "black man" that she was looking for which would have made it harder for her to go back eventually to the white guy. They made Blair look like the obvious wrong choice for her because he was so "uppity", therefore, of course she was going to go running back to ole landscaper dude, because he was loose and down to earth. but what if Blair was down to earth also??? that would have really made her see who she really wanted... I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

oh and didn't comment on "Take the Lead", i saw the preview for it and my first thoughts was "oh my god, not another inner city movie, and with Antonio Banderas, has he gone desperate for roles now?.. this looks like "Dangerous Minds" meets "Juliard". I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I love her too, but they had her so far over the top she was almost unlikeable true Alfrie's character was a bit snobbish...like the scene at the housewarming when Sanaa Lathan's parents were going to leave and her father said goodbye to Brian, but the mother just sought of wrote him off and just left like he wasn't standing right in front of her....
