Probably not! It's just been re-legalized in France. I haven't tried any French absinthe. The stuff I got was from the Czech Republic, years ago... I brought it to the US, in my baggage, along with about 7 bottles of wine. No, somehow nobody checked or cared.  They're stricter now... (this was 6 or 7 years ago). | |

Czech and German varieties are generally pretty bad. I think the best are found in France, Switzerland and Spain. The last absinthe I had was absolutely awful - artificially coloured and already sweetened. I'm not sure where that was from though.
Has anyone tried the method with lighting the sugar that's been dipped in the alcohol and letting it caramelize? Is it any good? | |

You can buy French Absinthe at some liquor stores in the US. I saw a neat little set that had glasses and a nice spoon for heating the sugar.The store I was in has acres of liquor. You probably can't get it at a neighborhood liquor store.It's a little expensive, but not outrageously priced. 45 grams isn't that much (90 grams THAT is a lot, but that's another story...) 30 grams is the normal dosage (the dosage you get at the smartshops) for a usual trip (fresh shrooms mind you not dried, if you want dried then 5 grams is more than enough...) But anyway if you want something really special or just want to cruise the galaxies then try Peyote (25+ year old ones preferably...) Neversin. O(+>NIИ<+)O

No. Importing absinthe into the U.S. is illegal. As a practical matter, one can order it online from sellers located in other countries, and the odds are that you'll receive your order. Even if Customs intercepts it, you'll probably just get a letter informing you that your order was confiscated. Still, there are no guarantees, and as I said, it's illegal, so I don't recommend it. There are some absinthe-like adult beverages sold in the U.S., such as "Absente," but they don't contain any wormwood, which is responsible for absinthe's famed secondary effects. Perhaps the best way to sample absinthe legally would be to visit Canada. According to Wikipedia, absinthe is legal is Ontario, Quebec, and British Columbia. Also, "in Saskatchewan, you can purchase any liquor available in the world provided you buy a minimum of one case, usually 12 bottles...." Yes, an 1/8 ounce or 3.5 grams is plenty, even enough to split with someone if you want a mild trip. I think Absinthe is not available in the US.
