4 Detroit Pistons starters selected for All-Star team

Team rewarded for their 40-8 start

Chris McCosky / The Detroit News

The Pistons have been justly rewarded for their league-best 40-8 start.

Four of the five Pistons starters have been selected as reserves for the Eastern Conference All-Star team.

In a vote of conference coaches that will be officially announced tonight at 7 p.m., Rasheed Wallace, Ben Wallace, Richard Hamilton and Chauncey Billups were selected to the team. It will be the fourth All-Star appearance for Ben Wallace, the third for Rasheed Wallace and the first for both Billups and Hamilton.

They will join Flip Saunders and his staff, comprising the largest Pistons largest All-Star contingent ever. No team has sent four players since the Philadelphia 76ers did it in 1983.

“It’s great, man, really,” Billups said. “It’s always been one of my goals to be an All-Star in this league. I wanted to prove that I was one of the best players at my position and this validates that.”

The All-Star game is Sunday, Feb. 19 in Houston. Billups will also compete in the three-point shootout competition on Saturday, Feb. 18.

This is an incredible TEAM. They prove night in and night out that there is no I in TEAM. They arent always razzle dazzle, but they dont have to be. They get the job done. It wouldve been great to have all 5 PISTONS starters in the NBA All Star Game. That way, we couldve seen the Western Conference versus the DETROIT PISTONS! cool

I LOVE THIS GAME!

Color me NOT IMPRESSED...(with this team)
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Whats does it matter what his ppg avarage is? He has contributed to the Pistons outstanding record. He's an outstanding defensive player that plays TEAM ball. Yeah, Kobe, AI, and Tracy McGrady score alot but their TEAMS suck.

The PISTONS are great role models for kids who play sports. thumbs up!

If you want your kids to hack/club/elbow (pick-a-foul) their way to the
top...then I agree with you.

Why is it that they are sooo proud of their nickname...badboys???

But, I'm not getting into that argument again.

I think the Bad Boys refer more to the championship Pistons from 15+ years ago. The rules have changed since then. They arent as agressive as Rick Mahorn, Bill Laimbeer and the boys. They are just a sheer fundementally sound basketball team.

I know youve still got a bitter taste in your mouth from the Pistons of yester year but this is a new breed for the most part.

By the way, I am hella salty from todays loss to Shaq and Wade. 110-98. disbelief

Pistons have now lost 9 games this season. neutral
