man kills woman he met online Police say woman killed by man she met online 22-year-old from Catonsville accused of beating date to death after argument By Nick Shields Sun Reporter Originally published February 8, 2006, 12:42 PM EST A Catonsville man was charged today with killing a woman whose body was found in a wooded area near a highway ramp, authorities said. John Christopher Gaumer, 22, of the 900 block of Walker Ave., has been charged with the first-degree murder of Josie Brown according to charging documents. According to the police and charging documents, Gaumer and Brown met over the Internet and went on a date Dec. 28. As they were headed back to his apartment, the two got into an argument, police said. He let her out of the car on the side of the highway near the southbound Interstate 95 and Interstate 695 ramp toward Towson and left, police said. When Gaumer returned to the scene, the two argued again, police said. He pushed her over a guardrail into a wooded area, where he beat her with a blunt object, police said. Police did not say what weapon he used. Police said he lived in privatized campus housing for the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Gaumer was denied bail at a bail review hearing earlier today. you look better on your facebook page than you do in person

That's scary. I rarely meet people online in person and I've only become friends with one of them.

How terrible!
I was in shock this past Friday watching Dateline which was about online predators going after pre-teens and teenagers. These kids thought they were inviting another kid their age to their home, but in fact they invited adult men mostly aged 30 and up and some of them had committed sex crimes before. Kids should never ever invite someone you meet online to your home. In fact it's a good idea to never agree to meet someone alone. Take an adult to meet the person in a public place, if you absolutely must meet the person. That goes for adults too.

But you don't read about stuff like this every day. The only reason it's news is because it's out of the ordinary.

Isn't there currently a thread about the evils of myspace.com? This kind of stuff seems to be happening more often.

I completely disagree, there's murders happening everyday and most do not get coverage on the news even if they are outrageously brutal. If you're friends with a policeman you would know.
There's more "evils" in elementary schools, playgrounds, neighborhoods, and daycares and churches where predators lurk.... so I think its safe to say that predators lurk everywhere... in every environment. sextonseven said: Justin1972UK said: But you don't read about stuff like this every day.
