I also tried to shock and awe people with Housequake once, but that didn't work at all. These days I usually look for SOTT on sale and when I find it I buy it and keep it for those times when I might run into someone I think I might be able to convert. If you give them a whole album they feel obligated to give it a chance. hehehe These are already converts, so no problem. Go check out my WMP playlist in the Prince Music forum! http://www.prince.org/msg/7/176851 . [Edited 2/9/06 3:45am] No "If I Was Your Girlfriend"? Other than that, it's a nice list. I'm glad you included Shockadelica. That's some seriously funky stuff! "There Is Lonely" and "Comeback" are two underappreciated gems that are nice to see there too. [Edited 2/9/06 3:55am]

If that makes sense. Strangely, it does. Sorry, I've been in a meeting. The 'Margaret' in me took over. I'm glad someone understands that! Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy with my life in lots of ways. Apart from the cuddling cats and helping my sister redecorate, you could insert your comments in my post. I'm very content. I appreciate a lot of things which - I think - most people take for granted. If the most people can say about me is that I'm a good person and I've enjoyed life, I'm happy with that. But career-wise... There's only so long you can pretend an issue doesn't exist. I need something far more fulfilling. But whatever job it is, Beatrice will always be the stronger bitch. Margaret won't get a look in.

We get about 80,000 contacts (phone calls, email, etc.) a day. The people who report to me sit at a desk with 8 flat panel monitors watching the 50+ types of calls we support come into and out of our site here, in Canada, in India, etc. Oh, and they also do first level technical support for about 1000 users. Yeah, it's real boring. How did you get that job? Did you find it yourself or was it recommended to you by someone else? Since you apparently think it's boring, what is keeping you there? Good pay? Good benefits? A comfortable and stable situation? Bad alternatives? Again, I'm just curious... Ususally when people ask what you do I assume they mean for work, but as I said, I usually just play off the question. I find a lot of folks who are doing jobs they don't really want to do will tell you that and then tell you what they are working towards, such as the stereotypical waiter/actor. As for my job? I've worked at the same company for over 9 years. This is the 7th position I've held there. It was basically offered to me. I started part time and just sort of moved around since then. I've been drifting through life for many years now, just sort of taking what comes. The only goals I've had have been leisure oriented, such as saving enough money to travel. I've stayed cause I just haven't looked for anything else. It allows me the income and vacation time to persue the things outside of work I want to, which is mainly travel and fun and such. And that was fine for a long time but I've been burned out on it for the last few years or so. So I've been trying to figure out what to do next. Actually, I've been trying to figure out what to do next for about 5 years. I'm just not good at making decisions. There are som many things I could do (and would want to do) I have no idea where to start. But I'm starting to figure that out. I think. |

This reminds me a little bit of a scene in Office Space: Peter Gibbons: Our high school guidance counselor used to ask us what you'd do if you had a million dollars and you didn't have to work. And invariably what you'd say was supposed to be your career. So, if you wanted to fix old cars you're supposed to be an auto mechanic. Samir: So what did you say? Peter Gibbons: I never had an answer. I guess that's why I'm working at Initech. The thing is though, that although it is an interesting and in some cases helpful hypothetical question, you don't have to have an answer. You don't have to know exactly what and why you're doing in order to do it. In that case, nothing at all would get done in this world! You're very talented and bright. Whatever you decide to do you'll do it well, so don't worry about that. And remember that you can always change your mind! That's easy to forget. You think that once you've thrown yourself onto a new path then you're stuck with it, but that really isn't the case. Try things on for size! It doesn't have a to be a great reason for that particular choice. You just need to stir the pot a little bit! Then, as you gain new experiences you'll also gain insight into your own destiny. The pieces will fall into place, trust me. I believe in you.
