Jake sets off my gaydar. Not to be mean and start pegging people as queer, but his comments, and mannerisms give me the feeling he's not entirely straight.

he's already gone on record saying that he would be willing to date a guy if he found one attractive. but he has yet to feel that way about anyone.... Space for sale...

Funny, because I feel the same way about Munich, Capote and Crash. I liked Brokeback Mountain, but there were others I liked more. My big sticking point with it was the casting of Jake Gyllenhaal. I thought he was pretty weak.

I saw it tonight.
It's good but a little... ponderous. It's also not as emotionally involving as people would have you believe. I mean it's sad but I wouldn't exactly call it a tear-jerker. Some of the dialogue is hard to understand too. Heath Ledger mumbles along as if he's recovering from a stroke, for most of the movie.

I did like it - I thought it was beautifully made, beautifully shot but I just felt it was lacking a certain something. I dunno - maybe it was the hype; perhaps I had too much expectation. Plus, the guy I went to watch it with kept talking throughout the movie. One of my pet hates. So I think I need to see it again - without the weight of expectation. And without some gas-bag sitting next to me.

I saw it and, you know what, I was kinda disappointed. Having been a huge fan of queeer cinema from the beginning, I've seen a lot of movies about hidden love, finding love, losing love, HIV and AIDS, and fag-bashing. In my opinion, this movie (like "Rent") is about ten years too late. I guess I just don't get the buzz it's generating.
Was it a good movie? Yes. Not one I'd see again and again, but beautifully told through its acting, scenery, and music. Don't go see it if you are expecting something you've never seen before, and you happen to be gay. Maybe what pisses me off most is what the movie says about society. To see it banned from playing in theaters is ridiculous. What the movie hints at is, as many of us here know already, there is no black and white... we are all shades of gray. (Take that racially and sexually.) Because a guy decides to have sex with another guy or loves a man, it doesn't mean he's gay. Just because a guy decides to marry a woman and have kids, it doesn't mean he's straight. And if he is married and has an affair on her (with a guy or another woman), it doesn't mean he doesn't love his wife. Got it? When will people stop putting labels on others (and themselves)? People need to stop living their lives with blinders on and look at things as a whole picture! This movie comes with a built-in "ooh and ahh" factor because it was made with recognizeable actors and popular director. Would it have had the same affect had it been made with unknowns, by an independent filmmaker, and released only to art houses? There are countless movies out there to compare it to that have that distinction. If you really want to go see a movie that is worthy of being talked about - in a positive light - go see "TransAmerica" starring Felicity Huffman. It is a better film and will genuinely stretch audience minds. The acting is brilliant too, by the way!!!!
