Psychic Schmsychic

I like to think of myself as a realist but - when it comes to astrology and stuff - I fall for its' charms each and every time. rolleyes

That doesn't necessarily mean I believe in it, but I do like to read my horoscopes. It's a harmless pleasure.

Anyway, one of my mates went to see a 'genuine' Romany gypsy psychic the other day and - although she reckons we could've told her the same information for a tenner lol - she still came out feeling very positive and, in that respect, thought it was money well-spent.

It's now got me itching to go and see what the future holds... Or at least have a good laugh at the results.

Have you ever been to a psychic?

No but I dunno, I might one day. I always think theyre bull***t, and I would be going in as a sceptic. Saying that though, its not the fortune telling itself I dont beleive in, because I read my horoscopes sometimes, and sometimes theyre spot on. I dont depend on them, but I think theres definitely some truth out there waiting to be found. I tend to think I see a lot of signs in things, wierd stuff, and I beleive that.... hmmm

You should go!! But make sure its someone you trust!

I saw one once and while it was entertaining, not a word she said came true. She did make some interesting guesses about my past that were accurate, but for someone who'd been doing that for years and years I think you just learn to read people well.
So overall, she earned her money in 'fun' value. But did I believe it?
No.

I have a friend who went to one and she told him some really specific stuff which has now come true for him...very wierd. He told me after I had seen it "come true". But I havent decided if he made the whole thing up or not yet!!

I may do. nod My mate Eleanor's coming to visit in a few weeks so we may pay a visit... I better practise my poker face. neutral I just want to see what they come up with.

With regards to what you were saying, I saw something about that called 'The Barnum Syndrome' once.

Basically, it was this programme and there were about 100 people in the audience. They gave each person an envelope, told them to open it, read it and keep the contents private. They asked those who felt they could identify with what was in their envelope to stand up. EVERYONE stood up. The presenter then read out what was in his envelope and it was exactly the same as what each audience member had in theirs. They all identified with exactly the same thing.

It's called 'The Barnum Syndrome' because Barnum - the impressario - always claimed his circus would appeal to absolutely everyone - the young, the old, mem, women, kids, etc.. There was something for everyone.

Some people claim astrology uses this exact principle. It applies a universal form of 'logic' almost. The way its' written - using core words and oblique phrases - can make virtually anyone identify with it. That's why so many people read their stars and think, "Wow! That's me!".

Thank you - I need to hear stories like this before I thrown my money down the drain. smile

My mate had the same approach - she came out feeling great but didn't necessarily believe a word of it. But, as an experience, she felt it was quite positive. nod

I could definitely see myself going to get a psychic reading for fun without actually believing it, but what I wouldn't do is go to those people that tell you which exact day you're going to die. Even though I wouldn't believe that either, I think the day would still get stuck in my head and knaw away at my peace of mind. confused

eek Cool, thats really interesting, ive never heard of that! I shall have to remember it when Im feeling more sceptical, lol wink

I tend to identify with the random signs more than the starts though, becase they always seem to specifically be for me...you know, songs that come on, people that you see, something someone says to you, I dunno. But they all happen at a specific time which will induce a specific reraction from you, in that you will take it to mean something particular. And I believe that happens on purpose. Happens to me all the time, really wierd and random stuff too...kinda freaky at times, but I keep my eye on it nod

Thats my input to the psychic thread lol

Thanks, Mach. thumbs up! I may just go and see what he says.

I should've put a question mark, perhaps, in my thread title as it's more a question, rather than an assumption. I wouldn't want to offend those that have strong beliefs in this.

Can I ask: if everyone has this ability, how do you learn to 'tap' into it? How do you know what the signs are? It fascinates me.

I have a friend that is psychic and sometimes she's so right it scares me. I've had her give me reading, but she does not charge me $.
You have to be careful, though because there as sooo many scam artists.
And I do beleive eevryone has the power to tap into it somehow. Some just have an inherent ability to do so or are born with it, sort of like a natural gift or talent.

I know, sometimes I'm dying to call her and bug her about something little, but i take care not to abuse it in case I REALLY need her, which sometimes I do!
However, sometimes she calls me because she knows or senses I want to talk to her. I wouldn't be surprised if she calls me soon, I've been thinking about her lately. biggrin

I have been in conversation with a fellow orger regarding psychic stuff, mainly my own ability. I don't read peoples minds or anything like that but ever since I was young I have always noticed "coincidence" and the older I get the more hardcore the "experiences" seem to be.

Let me give you a few examples:

  • It was a weekend and I was sleeping in. I called my best friend to see what she was up to for the day and she sounded kinda strange when I called and she said I did something I never thought I'd do again. I ask her what she was talking about and she said that she didn't have time to get into it and that she would call me the next day for lunch.

So it's the next day and I kinda forgot about that phone call. She and I and 2 other friends took a trip up to the mountains with a homemade chicken stew and white rice. On the way we stop into McDonalds to use the restroom and they had this yogurt and fruit thing which I would never eat. Berries and most friuts upset my stomach. Well my friend commented on how good it looked and then I said I would never eat that desert. Yuck! barf But I did have the strangest dream the other night.....

My friend asked what the dream was about. I told her it was one of those vivid dreams and that I usually don't taste things in my dreams but in this dream I was foraging around for something to eat and when I opened up the fridge the only thing in it was blueberries and cream and that even though I would never eat it in real life, in the dream they were delicious and she said When did you have this dream?! eek I said Not last night but the night before.

She was like eek eek eek and then she told me about what she was talking about when I had called when she said she did something she never thought she'd do again and that was to take LSD. Someone put some in her beer when she wasn't looking and during her trip she had gotten hungry and went looking in our friends fridge and that he had blue berries and cream and she had eaten it. I had gotten home around 3: am the night I had this dream and woke up at 11:00 and her eating the blueberries and cream at our friends happened within that window. What are the odds that I would dream about something I detest and then love it in the dream and not only that but the dream was vivid, just like reality all the while my friend is doing just that in real life?

  • Once in LA by myself I was waiting for a beer and a guy started chatting with me and found out I was there alone and invited me over to hang with some of his friends. They were airline stewards/stewardesses from England on a layover. So we are in a group conversation and I can hear everything that is being said. We were talking for less than 10 minutes when I had deja vu.....but in such a hard way that it actuall made me dizzy. So as I was watching this deja vu unfold, I had a literal vision of the loch ness monster. The vision was so strong that it was literally the only thing I could see. I lost all vision of the scene around me.

All of a sudden I feel a hand on my arm and I am jolted out of the vision and the guy who invited me over asked if I was OK. I said that I was and that I was having deja vu. He asked again if I was OK, saying I didn't look right and I told him not to worry, it was just the deja vu and then I told him...I usually don't tell people the details because they always think I'm crazy (and normally I wouldn't even share) but I along with the deja vu I also had a vision of the loch ness monster. Now I know.... I was going to complete that sentence as "Now I know that makes no sense whatsoever" and before I could finish the sentence one of his friends started yelling "oh my god! He was on a tour of the loch ness lake just last weekend eek Now what are the odds that I would have a random vision of the lockness and this guy just was there the weekend before?

  • I was looking for an aparment some years back and during my search I stopped to get lunch at one of my favorite restaurants. While waiting for my order I went next door to the coffee shop to see if they had anything to read. I don't drink coffee so normally I would have no reason to enter one. Well I walked in and they had a bulletin board and on it was a blank business card and it said "1 Bdr. Tlph. 555-5555". That is all the information there was. Normally I would laugh at something like that but I had a feeling about it. So I took it off the bulletin board so nobody else could have the number.

Well, in the 2 years that I lived on that city, every once in a while I would stumble on this neighborhood while I was taking shortcuts on the way home. And I would become mesmerized while driving through that I would always forget to remember where that neighborhood was. And I went looking for it but could never find it. But I loved that neighborhood and just wished I could live there.

So back to the coffee shop.... So I'm sitting there reading a magazine and waiting for my lunch and this guy walks in and says
Do you want your tarot cards read?

I don't have any money. I'm not interested.

I'm learning how to read cards and will do them for free!

    You'll do them for free?

    Yes.

    OK.

    What's your name?

    Richard.

Shuffle this deck and cut the cards into three stacks.

That was the extent of our conversation. So I shuffle and divide into 3 stacks. The first card is flipped over and it is a man laying on the ground with a bunch of swords sticking out of him. I looked at that card and told him that I would reject and rebuke a negative reading. He said that the card wasn't really a bad card, that it represented change.

He flips over the next card and it was the Queen of cups. Ah! That is a great card in connection to the first card. The first card represents change and the queen of cups represents fortune. He flips over the 3rd card and it was a bunch of sticks. He stared at that card intently and then said I'm sensing water. It's very strong. Are you a Pisces?"

eek Yes, yes I am eek

He flips over the next card and does his analysis and then asks me to pick another deck. The first 3 cards from that second deck were the same first 3 cards from the first deck and were in the SAME ORDER!.

Later that night I called to make an appointment to look at the apartment from the little business card I got from the coffee shop. 3 days later I'm on my way to my appointment and I slowed my car down.....No way! Don't even tell me THIS is the neighborhood!!. It was that neighborhood I stumbled across those few times and wanted so badly to live in. I got to the address and the apartment was right in that neighborhood. I ended up living there for 2 years biggrin

  • I recently went to Bingo. While there I saw a woman I used to see at other Bingo's and hadn't seen her in something like 6 months or so. She's a very unusual character. Quite noticeable and unforgettable. She used to have a little squeaky cat that she would squeeze whenever they called "O-69" and whenever I heard the squeak I would say "Squeekers" lol

So she comes up to me and following her is a guy I know from a Bingo place I play on Saturdays and he says watch this. So she shuffles a deck of cards, says for me to pick a card and then spreads them out with her fingers. As she was spreading the cards, I focused on one card and kept that focus even while she was spreading the cards out. So I pick the card, which was the King of Clubs, she puts it on the top of the deck and then shuffles the cards again.

She then takes a styrofoam cup and places the deck leaning on the cup and then waves her hands and a card comes popping up. Sure enough, it was the king of clubs. When she left to do the trick on somene else, the guy who came with her said that he picked the King of Clubs too and so that must be part of the trick. Well, I watched her perform the trick on other people and nobody else picked the King of Clubs. After I saw the other tricks that didn't include the King of Clubs, I told the guy it couldn't have anything to do with it because others picked different cards than the king of clubs. Now what are the odds that I would pick the same exact card as this guy.?

So I leave to catch the bus home and this woman pulls up and offers me a ride. So I get in and we start chatting about the trick. I didn't ask her how it was done but I figured it probably had to do with the static electricity left on the card from my holding it and the fact that styrofoam attracts static electricity like crazy. But then she did the trick on others and used other objects that I definitely wouldn't associate with static electricity so maybe that isn't it. Who knows. So we were talking about the trick and I told her that I pulled the same card as the guy who came with her and that he thought that was part of the trick but no, that I only picked the same card he did.

She says do you do psychic readings. I said Oh no, I have never had a reading before. I have had my tarot cards read once but I've never had a psychic reading.. She said No. Do you DO them. You can you know. nod

    eek

She is a psychic herself and gave me her card.

More and more in my life, this thing is seeking me out and I have learned to listen to my intuition and to be open to it. nod

Richard, I must say they are weird coincidences! I think I'd be a little freaked out by those. lol I wonder how much is down to your preception of them - i.e. in that you are quite 'open' to the possibilities and therefore notice them more readily? Or whether they are just coincidences?

But it certainly sounds like you come into contact with these incidents quite regularly. Maybe you should check this out further. nod
