Psychic Schmsychic I like to think of myself as a realist but - when it comes to astrology and stuff - I fall for its' charms each and every time.
That doesn't necessarily mean I believe in it, but I do like to read my horoscopes. It's a harmless pleasure. Anyway, one of my mates went to see a 'genuine' Romany gypsy psychic the other day and - although she reckons we could've told her the same information for a tenner - she still came out feeling very positive and, in that respect, thought it was money well-spent. It's now got me itching to go and see what the future holds... Or at least have a good laugh at the results. Have you ever been to a psychic?

No but I dunno, I might one day. I always think theyre bull***t, and I would be going in as a sceptic. Saying that though, its not the fortune telling itself I dont beleive in, because I read my horoscopes sometimes, and sometimes theyre spot on. I dont depend on them, but I think theres definitely some truth out there waiting to be found. I tend to think I see a lot of signs in things, wierd stuff, and I beleive that....
You should go!! But make sure its someone you trust!

Ex-Moderator | I saw one once and while it was entertaining, not a word she said came true. She did make some interesting guesses about my past that were accurate, but for someone who'd been doing that for years and years I think you just learn to read people well.
So overall, she earned her money in 'fun' value. But did I believe it? No. |

I have a friend who went to one and she told him some really specific stuff which has now come true for him...very wierd. He told me after I had seen it "come true". But I havent decided if he made the whole thing up or not yet!!

You should go!! But make sure its someone you trust! I may do. My mate Eleanor's coming to visit in a few weeks so we may pay a visit... I better practise my poker face. I just want to see what they come up with. With regards to what you were saying, I saw something about that called 'The Barnum Syndrome' once. Basically, it was this programme and there were about 100 people in the audience. They gave each person an envelope, told them to open it, read it and keep the contents private. They asked those who felt they could identify with what was in their envelope to stand up. EVERYONE stood up. The presenter then read out what was in his envelope and it was exactly the same as what each audience member had in theirs. They all identified with exactly the same thing. It's called 'The Barnum Syndrome' because Barnum - the impressario - always claimed his circus would appeal to absolutely everyone - the young, the old, mem, women, kids, etc.. There was something for everyone. Some people claim astrology uses this exact principle. It applies a universal form of 'logic' almost. The way its' written - using core words and oblique phrases - can make virtually anyone identify with it. That's why so many people read their stars and think, "Wow! That's me!". My mate had the same approach - she came out feeling great but didn't necessarily believe a word of it. But, as an experience, she felt it was quite positive.

I could definitely see myself going to get a psychic reading for fun without actually believing it, but what I wouldn't do is go to those people that tell you which exact day you're going to die. Even though I wouldn't believe that either, I think the day would still get stuck in my head and knaw away at my peace of mind.

[Edited 2/7/06 6:49am] Cool, thats really interesting, ive never heard of that! I shall have to remember it when Im feeling more sceptical, lol I tend to identify with the random signs more than the starts though, becase they always seem to specifically be for me...you know, songs that come on, people that you see, something someone says to you, I dunno. But they all happen at a specific time which will induce a specific reraction from you, in that you will take it to mean something particular. And I believe that happens on purpose. Happens to me all the time, really wierd and random stuff too...kinda freaky at times, but I keep my eye on it Thats my input to the psychic thread

I may just go and see what he says. I should've put a question mark, perhaps, in my thread title as it's more a question, rather than an assumption. I wouldn't want to offend those that have strong beliefs in this. Can I ask: if everyone has this ability, how do you learn to 'tap' into it? How do you know what the signs are? It fascinates me.

I have a friend that is psychic and sometimes she's so right it scares me. I've had her give me reading, but she does not charge me $.
You have to be careful, though because there as sooo many scam artists. And I do beleive eevryone has the power to tap into it somehow. Some just have an inherent ability to do so or are born with it, sort of like a natural gift or talent.

I know, sometimes I'm dying to call her and bug her about something little, but i take care not to abuse it in case I REALLY need her, which sometimes I do! However, sometimes she calls me because she knows or senses I want to talk to her. I wouldn't be surprised if she calls me soon, I've been thinking about her lately.

I have been in conversation with a fellow orger regarding psychic stuff, mainly my own ability. I don't read peoples minds or anything like that but ever since I was young I have always noticed "coincidence" and the older I get the more hardcore the "experiences" seem to be.
Let me give you a few examples:
More and more in my life, this thing is seeking me out and I have learned to listen to my intuition and to be open to it. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Thanks virginie, Ocean and Supa.
Richard, I must say they are weird coincidences! I think I'd be a little freaked out by those. I wonder how much is down to your preception of them - i.e. in that you are quite 'open' to the possibilities and therefore notice them more readily? Or whether they are just coincidences? But it certainly sounds like you come into contact with these incidents quite regularly. Maybe you should check this out further.
