Explain the two single cd cases to me

OK, here in the US we have a single jewel case, that holds a single cd, has an inner tray (choose your color), and has a front insert art and the back panel artwork.

Everywhere else (imports from other countries) have the slimline case that holds one cd, with just one (slide in) piece of artwork, titles and tracklistings on the little inside flap.

Why can't everyone decide on a universal cd case? Pros/Cons?

I am getting old and can hardly read the text on those import cds, that are just printed on the flap (almost 1"). The US artwork is printed on the entire back (5 1/2" x 4 3/4"). I also can't find replacements when my cases crack, break or get scratched. If the imports contain a double cd, it comes in the regular jewel case size with a hinged tray.

Us uses the same size for singles and doubles and then goes to the quads for multiples. So there are only really two sizes with multiple trays.

Explain why there are still slimline cases. To eliminate trays and one piece of art all together?

Which do you prefer?

Same in Europe and pretty much every other part of the world that I've been to. Where exactly are you importing your CDs from, jthad? The moon? smile

Not the moon, but coconuts - Don't tell me they don't exist
i bought about 40 single import cds this weekend at coconuts from Holland, UK, Germany, Australia, all with slimline cases. What are all of you saying? All countries use the same as US now? I have titles as old as 2002 but some current ones that are from 2005 (Kelly Clarkson/Low, Mariah Carey/It's like That, Janet/Just a little while, Prince/Musicology, Beyonce, Destiny's Child etc)

i hate the thin slimline cases mad

Well, just to make sure we're talking about the same thing, this is what we have now and have had since CDs were invented (except certain special edition CDs or things like that of course):

They come with cover art on the front and back just like you said and are around 1 cm thick (that's...errr...a bit less than half an inch, I think).

I'm sorry, but I think you've been screwed by coconuts....that didn't come out right. confused
