So i've been really pensive lately (future project, NEED thoughts) so in one of my studio classes we're looking @ performance art... and im totally excited cuz i know that we'll be assigned something to do (live interventions) for class in a few weeks
and an idea struck me... a real big idea... but it may be risky so here's my idea: i wanted to do something that displays resilience from a black woman's perspective - one that i understand, my own... bear with me...please! so i'm walking across a stage (that's where we have to do it, wish i was able to do it around everyone @ school) either wrapped in cling wrap or holding a sheet of clear plexiglass, while others spit @ me...i continue to walk until i'm off stage... now this is why i thought of this: i'm not saying that im spit on all the time by people - i've never been spat @ before..but im just saying that the discriminations and stereotypes i've experienced felt dirty to me, and i always felt violated in the sense that something foul/unclean has touched me... the plexiglass is my strength, i can still see my goals, values and morals clearly, but it keeps me going and striving to do what i want to do... it's a little staged, but this is the first time i'm purging this thought onto any media surface...so it will most likely be worked and re-worked...and hopefully i'll have some techy to help me put it on the pc... yeah, it's a harsh idea, but when it comes to my art -- the last thing i want to do is sugarcoat what i'm trying to convey... yeah it is pretty harsh...but if that's what you feel/have felt...sounds like a great way to convey that feeling
i think the only risk is if you shy away from what you want to say

Sounds bold, and that's good. There's no point in doing something safe.

Can you have dialog or maybe a recite a poem as you walk? that would be far too rehearsed, i dont plan on practising or anything this is just a thought and then we run it thru once that makes it more of a performance art peice than a monologue... if my prof does however allow us to do monologues, then i'll consider it
