Question Specifically for Gay Orgers of Color...

First, I'm posting this with the assumption that, like me, most people assess the value of art based partly on its social poignance. (I may be wrong, of course.)

To the extent that's true, I'm curious...

On the basis of social merit over cinematic accomplishment, which do you want to see take the Best Picture Oscar -- Brokeback Mountain or Crash? And why?

(And forgive me if this has already been discussed.)

Crash. I am not gay, just don't discrimnate against anyone that would take care of my needs. Although i haven't seen broke whatever, Crash is better. I rather have Devil's Reject as best picture to tell you the truth!!

The thing I hate is that both movies are apples and oranges. There are issues that relate to both but it's a hard decision. It pisses me off that when I mention Crash people respond in a serious manner. When I mention Brokeback Mountain people giggle. I loved both movies. I can relate to the homosexuality in Brokeback but I can also relate, somewhat, to the Mexican character in CRASH. Sandra Bullocks character thought he was a gang member. The part that got me though was when his beeper went off at one point in the movie. I was thinking "Damn, he's a drug dealer." Of course that wasn't the case. I had to stand back and think about why I thought that.

I thought Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams were awesome in Brokerback but the story was slow and I felt cheated by the ending. Crash is a movie I think everyone should see for the social apsect of it. It made me think, made me sad, happy and everything in between.
