Ok, who's watching Dave Chapelle on Oprah? Where's the Vitamin Love? "Nobody makes me bleed my own blood...NOBODY!"

He's not coming off very well and his explanations don't really make much sense.

i'm watching - but I'm not expecting it to go well. Oprah isn't really a good interviewer these days, she totally guides the answers, or will literally put words in people's mouth. Like she just don't give a fuck or fuuuhh or something

Agreed! This is one of the wierdest interviews I've ever seen. He's either on something or he is indeed emotionally unstable. It looks like he is about to cry at any moment. **************************************************
Pull ya cell phone out and call yo next of kin...we 'bout to get funky......2,3 come on ya'll

It would help if the rest of the world knew who this 'Dave' is.
This thread is a very...enigmatic affair otherwise David Blaine? David Hasselhof? David Letterman? David Copperfield? David Lee Roth? David Bowie? David Ike? Dave Grohl? etc etc...

Okay, I was wrong, he's the comedian guy.

He looked awfully glassy-eyed in a pic from that interview. Think he's medicated -- er, I mean, beyond his usual prescription?

Damn,I missed it. Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

To me, Dave Chapelle really did not articulate his thoughts well at all. I don't know if he was nervous, medicated/high or he just cannot express what he's thinking in complete sentences.
Did any of ya'll see where he starts saying he wants to give his $$ to the public...his old high school etc and O says "I'm going to caution you here...you're on national television..."? It was interesting to watch. I'm firmly planted in denial

I saw it and I agree. I think maybe, just maybe he isn't saying much because there is a chance he'll go back (and maybe save it for the show). I honestly think it was really about how the people around him changed...but just fire motherfuckers! He said he wants to do Howard Stern soon and that he isn't doing a lot of press, so this is because he and Howard have a good relationship. I would say Dave was one of the few people that killed in the Jackie chair, but he obviously wasn't intersted in making it a gig...Bigger and better. I think the truth will come out there.

Will Comedy Central take him back [Edited 2/3/06 18:05pm] if they are smart, yes. Comedy Central is always trying to do new shows (Remember "Stella" and "Mind of Manica"...neither does the public!) and they finally found something that will really get ratings...they don't want to lose it!

Yeah. Dave was high as a muthafukka.
He's actually pretty intelligent, but sure didn't come out that way. When he said "the black face was a personification of the word n---" I thought OK he's gonna be pretty insightful. But nope. It just went down hill from there. The ramblings. The tales that weren't really anecdotes worth sharing. The paranoia ("they put a wall where my office was" WTF?) Shut up Dave. And Oprah ..did not engage him at all. She just let him ramble incoherently and flail about maniacally, occasionally drooping over with half lowered eye lids as if he were going to fall asleep or into a drug-induced coma. I can understand him coming on high. I mean Oprah is developing quite a reputation for attacking guests .James Frey aside, didn't she yell at another guy this week saying "what I think is ridiculous is the way you're responding to this question." ha ha! Anyway she handled him with kid gloves ...and didn't even ask him about the outrageous urban myth circulating that she, Cosby, Sharpton, etc. coerced him to leave the show because it was sending out negative images of black folx. Let me say I am upset that Dave has bought into that idea, condemning his show as socially irresponsible. I thought he did a fine job of creating skits that made people think about prejudice and race based divisions in society. He was satire. Did people really believe he was endorsing those negative images. They are so over-the-top ridiculous it was clear he was satirizing that negative behavior. D.L. Hughley is a irresponsible. Dave is quite witty. I hate when people reneg on their prior work.

Dave's fine. That Charlie Murphy is an idiot though.

I thought he was alright.
He needs Oprah to help him out though I understood what he was "TRYING" to say. He was stressed, pressured AND ppl started acting crazy around him. I don't think its an unfamiliar story.

The interview at Oprah's site (they provide a transcript or write-up) had him sounding extremely paranoid and irresponsible. I did like the charity aspect. Toward the end, though, he sounds like he's begging the network to take him back.
The whole thing read like an effective anti-drug PSA.

Funny - I read this thread first THEN watched the intv, 2 totally different perspectives
I've seen Dave interviewed many times. He's always smokin' so that's not new, a little faded for the intv (for life really) His first few sentences had me worried but I think it was just nervousness. I understood everything he was saying, I didn't feel he was rambling at all. He was hurt that people who he thought would have his back fell into the hype, & it's the hype that wore him the fuck out. I'm not worried about Dave at all. I heard he KILLED when he was doing comedy clubs upon his return from Africa. I think he just wasn't prepared to be SO visible & so grabbed at by everybody, shit gets trippy. I especially understood when he told the story about the dude laughing too hard & he thought, "they got me!" THAT is a bug out - feeling like you've been on one side of the laugh all these years & now to find yourself on the other side of it. He had to get away from all the people that had an angle, clear his head, work it out. Fucked up about his writing partner too, you can tell he's really hurt by that one. You expect execs to fuck you but not your friends. It's like when Chris Rock killed his HBO show - said it wasn't fun anymore, that the writers were leaving, that he started w/ his friends & it was fun to come to work & it just became a drag when things changed. Same shit, different comedian... Work it out Dave, you'll be alright

I think he's just very hurt and didn't know how to express it. That happens sometimes. I know one thing, don't call his ass crazy, because he might just go crazy on you. He was very sensitive about that subject. But i can't help not getting a weird vibe from it while watching it... it was like listening to someone who has been on the edge a long time, very fragile, and if not careful, will crack....i hope he stays strong I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.
