Oops, I thought Emylou Harris sang that song.

M

I think the "Go, Dolly" comment was referencing her nomination for the song from Transamerica.

Just to clarify - those are not my predictions. Those are my choices for the best of the nominations. I don't even try to predict their thought patterns. Not fun for me!

I'm hoping Crash wins best picture.

Philip Seymour Hoffman deserves the award for best actor. He was bang on as
Capote. My second choice would be Joaquin Phoenix for best actor. I like Reese Witherspoon for best actress. I'm not really a big fan of hers, but she was fantastic in Walk the Line.

The only movie among the one's nominated for lead film that I'm interested in is "Capote", which I saw and was brilliant....I'm starting to think that Hollywood is too damn liberal (even though the studio heads are far from!). I'm kind of surprised "Munich", which bombed, got the nod over "Walk The Line". "Crash" was so forced, even though most of the performances were good.

The list for Best Song nominees is really disappointing. Three songs, and one of them that terrible It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp? lol Can't wait to see that performance. Maybe Dolly will win it. dancing jig

Judi Dench.....aaaaarrrrrgggghhhhh, for the ten-thousandth time.....she's so boring, really can't stand her!!!!!

I don't share your hate for her, but it is tiresome that they nominate her for everything she does. Mrs. Henderson Presents is a good little film, but hardly worthy of any award consideration.

It seems like that list gets more and more embrassing each year since record companies have really lost interest in having their artists become part of a soundtrack (and probably vice versa). The superstar pop soundtrack seems to be all but dead...I wouldn't be shocked if this catogery gets scrapped since it's so laughable....Years ago people used to complain that they packed so many popular pop songs on the list that they excluded most hip-hop and R&B....now they are so desperate for nominees...."It's Hard Being A Pimp"?

Snubbed "The Hulk?" You're joking, right? smile

There were a smile emoticon....I didn't think "The Hulk" was terrible...Slightly better than "Daredevil" (but then again, so is just about anything).

but heres the deal with song nominations..its an award for a song that is best used through out a film. one that conveys the mood and story of the song...

so, i can see how Pimp got nominated. its an intricate part of the film imho. not a great rap song...but it works within the film.

uhh u got me confused...wasn't me...i was rooting for Jamie Foxx last year and was actually hoping for him to win, Morgan Freeman was a surprise to me, although he was well overdue for his Oscar....

but those performances don't even compare to a broken down pimp...c'mon

yeah he was good, but playing a pimp falls into those easy character categories

anybody can play a:
pimp
hooker
stripper
crackhead

the way to get a best actor/actress oscar is to play somebody who actually existed...famously, like Ray Charles, that Eileen woman who killed those johns, and the pianist guy...u know

thats why in my opinion the race is between that Philip Seymour guy and Joaquin Phoenix since they both played people who were famous or something...

maybe you're right, but since Foxx won last year playing Ray Charles, maybe this year those roles are not in favor with members of the Academy....who knows?

i wouldnt say the bio phenom is a guaranteed one...look at Liam Neeson (Schindlers List) or...well hot damn is my mind drawing a blank. lol..

i know playing a hooker tends to get a win (jane fonda, mira sorvino) but i havent heard of a bio role being a good luck role.

and Howard was awesome in the film. Without his nuanced performance that movie would have been horrible. or at least 50 cent worthy.

nod It was a great performance in a lackluster film. The latter part of that equation is why he won't win and why Felicity Huffman isn't a guaranteed win.

I saw TRANSAMERICA last night, FINALLY!!!! I can't stand that San Jose is a huge city but we're treated like a small town. We don't get the good movies until about a month after San Francisco gets it.

Felicity was flawless in this movie. It was a very very good movie.
