sigh This thread is depressing. I've been scared of things, but nothing that seems as serious or terrifying as some the stuff on here.

When I was in 8th grade babysitting for my cousins, their parents came home and said my dad had had a seizure and was in the hospital (he's fine). I guess that was scary.

Even when I was in a bad car accident in Chicago (the car was totaled) and I could see the whole thing coming--like in slow motion--I remember thinking, "well I guess this is it. I guess I'm going to die." but I wasn't scared. Luckily I ended up only having bruised ribs and a cut in my head.
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

the first week or so i lived in NYC, i worked at a video store in the village and one night i was behind the counter and one of those big ass waterbugs came running across the floor at me. i had to yell for someone to come help me because i was seriously freaked out...they didn't have that shit in indiana. we just had snakes and banana spiders, sheesh.

I know EXACTLY what you mean. I grew up on a farm--crickets, snakes, mice, spiders, centipedes, but I just had one of those fucking waterbugs in my apartment (which by the way, I keep CLEAN) and I freaked the FUCK out. omfg I'm not a cryer and I was on the phone with my parents bawling.bawl I stepped on that fucker, poured bleach on it, scraped it into a ziploc bag with a hanger then took the trash out right away!

Definitely not the scariest- but one I'm comfortable sharing:

I had headaches and pains in the left side of my head for over 3 weeks. It felt like a mix between an ice cream freeze headache and a muscle spasm- only it was in my head and on the left side.

My regular doctor could not schedule me in soon enough, so I went to one of those walk-in clinics. They said it was an ear infection. Took meds. Came back two weeks later. Now, on top of all the aches and headpains, my left eye was constantly twitching. The doctor gave me a muscle relaxer- so I was kinda out of it. He called my roomie to come pick me up. In the meantime, he also advised me that the nerve that goes up the back of your neck, across the head and up to your ear was inflammed.... so to ease that, he was going to give me a nerve blocker. Cool deal, that'll help.

He then walks in, accompanied by a nurse who is holding two of the most giant needles I've ever seen. One was to numb, one was the nerve blocker.

He injected both into the back of my head. One at a time, of course. It was right about where you would put a high ponytail, a little to the left. The first needle was to numb the pain... and when they put it in- the syrenge broke. I was already in tears at this point. I was too fucked up from the pill he gave me to put up much resistance.. and there really wasn't any turning back. Looking back now, I should have disagreed and walked out before the first needle went into my head- but hindsight is always 20/20. I felt like I was in a really shitty horror movie.

I got home that night and about 2 hours later- the pain came back, only worse. I called one of those 1-800-ASK A NURSE services here locally. I told the nurse what had taken place and asked what I should do. Her exact words were: "Keep someone who knows CPR with you and call 911 immediately. "

Fun.

After a long hospital stay, catscans, MRI's, etc.. it's been determined that I have cluster headaches. A very rare disease for women, but I guess I'm just one of the lucky ones. /sarcasim. They're very scary, for me and for my loved ones who are here to witness when I have one of the episodes. Thankfully, I don't have the Horner's Syndrome that is associated with it for some people. I didn't even know what the fuck cluster headaches were before all this happened. There's some good information on them online, and if anyone who reads this has them or knows someone who does- *hugs*.
